After upgrading OS to win xp sp2 the burner wont burn.
It starts ok, stucks at some point and wont finish.
I tried various software - win xp, win media player, express burn, cdburnerxp 2.2.2 and 4.0, all failed.
The burner is NEC 2510A, 2-3 years old.
Did you do all the updates to Windows after this reinstall of the operating system? SP2 is most like needs to update on this issue.
Oh also Welcome to the forum.
Thanks for wellcome!
Yes, the update are done auto, and Belarc report shows all are in.
canthe problem be related to firmware update? i didnt do, I do not know if I should, I dont know how to do.
This is an older NEC drive, but from personal experience I can confirm it should work with XP SP2.
One thing I’d suggest is to look at the fragmentation of your hard drive, since installing a load of stuff with SP2, it might have become too fragmented to deliver the data fast enough to the DVD writer. You can use ImgBurn and look at the computer buffer filling; and whether the drive buffer is adequately supplied.
Anything else you have changed, such as a new batch of discs? Failing to finish the burn could also be due to newer media types not being compatible with an older burner.
Nothing to do with the drive problem: but you should also update Belarc Advisor and its dataset if you haven’t already done so. There are newer editions for it and you may find other XP updates are available and highlighted.[/I]
Disk c: looks clean, only 5G out of 10G are used, it also looks not fragmented. Anayzing says no need to fragment.
Media - I did not change. it may be bad media but I could burn before with the same.
OK well that’s something then. You shouldn’t need new firmware if it all worked before and the discs are the same.
Nevertheless I’d still test it with ImgBurn and see what happens to the buffers during a burn. They’ll fluctuate a bit but shouldn’t drop below ~80%.
Are you just burning DVDs, or doing format conversions as well? Having around 5 GB spare may not be enough drive space for the latter.
Is this an internal or external burner?
I ll try imgburn, let me know where to find it.
all tests were done to create an Audio CD from mp3. A lot of conversions. Still - same worked before I installed the SP2. when the c: was severly fragmented.
(I decided on reinstalling the SP2 + formatting c: because it was so much fragmented.)
I do not want to introduce more troubles, but rather to provide more info…
it is internal burner
ImgBurn is here… : http://www.imgburn.com/
Edit: Seeing as you are doing conversions, can you be sure that the problem is definitely durning the burning stage and not the converting?
yes, it is sure.
It may happen that 2 tracks are burnt and 8 more - nothing, and the 2 are readable (hearable).
or 2 tracks burnt and other 8 - only the track name exist on CD (cda3, cda4 etc…) but cannot be played.
OK I see… it sounds like the problem is happening early on in the burn then.
Does the same thing happen with other types of data - different from audio CDs?
Can you download CD-DVD Speed (doesn’t need installing), fire it up and put one of these unused discs in the drive. Then click the ‘Disc Info’ tab and tell us what the Media ID is…
This will require some time…my pc is far away…I ll do it later and post the results.
some more information - When i used win media player i watched it “converting” all files, then “copying to cd” ( or close to…), and stuck at the end of the process with some error announced.
I also changed the drive setup (in “properties”) to used drive E: where i have 20G spare or more, but same results.
Thanks for the help, hope to get more help tomorrow after I post the results.
OK no probs… In the meantime if you could also locate an error log for one of those burns, that would help a lot.
cdburnerxp sent error 336130, couldnt find what it means.
I saw that you are from Gambia, correct? if so - I ll be back to the forum in 8-9 hours. and at home, near the PC. I believe it is you afternoon?
Hmmm… well for that application, you’re not alone in having a similar problem: see here --> http://cdburnerxp.se/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5235&p=19115&hilit=+error+iso+writing#p19115
I was in The Gambia for a few years, but now back in Blighty (on GMT). I know where I’d rather be at this time of year though
I burnt img of data foles - 110mb, was ok.
Then I prepared img of audio tracks 650mb, tried to burn. imgburn stuck on writing leadin, I aborted after 6 min…
write speed 4x…32x
on disc quality test:
drive NEC 2510A
disc data (plasmon)
c1 c2 - no errors.
I ran out of CDRs lol
by the way - took me some time to figure out that I have to prepare an img, then burn. Audio I converted first with CDEX1.50, then img, then burn (and stuck with leadin).
I would either get better media or buy a newish burner right away.
And what about the challenge?? The winning?
last thing that happened is that the burner can read all, but if trying to imgburn an iso file it stuck on leadin. also couldnt format a DVD+RW.
took me sometime till I finished all experiments with softwares, to try to diconnect and reconnect the IDE cable from the NEC 2510A, then the burner started reading and writing, thanks god!!
Now - it wont write at hi speed (after failing at max speed i succeeded at 4X, an iso file 650mb):
this is nero log, Thanks to whoever helps:
