Very starnge. Do basic troubleshooting.
Check DMA settings. Check Master/Slave combo, try changing. Avoid Cable Select.
What O/S are you using??? If 2k or XP then
Try bootup into Safemode, erase all drives in device manager and also erase ide channells, try to reboot and have Win put them back, maybe its a small glitch that can be resolved.
Make sure you have latest chipset drivers for motherboard, maybe even update BIOS, and maybe there are better Drive drivers themselves.
Do Windows updates.
