Can you burn cds with regular CD-ROM drive?

I know, it sounds stupid but one of my friends told me you could do this with the right software… just wondering, is it possible?

No.

a CD-ROM drive is a “read only” drive, you need a CD-RW drive to WRite.

The same difference applies to DVD-ROM Vs DVD-RW drives.
