[qanda]This question is published in the hardware section for the Pioneer DVR-115D / DVR-1910. Click here to view full specs.[/qanda]Need my first DVD burner. I've read I can download Lightscribe software (free). Can this burner use that w/o dealing w/a firmware upgrade? If so, is that the only other piece of software I need? Thank you!
Welcome to CDF’s:
No the 115D is not a LightScribe drive and only a true Pioneer will only have LabelFlash with some models. The 115L will have LabelFlash. LightScribe and LabelFlash are two different technology’s/hardware’s.
Welcome to the forum, Mac29!
No, the drive doesn’t have the necessary hardware inside for LightScribe, so downloading a firmware “fix” wouldn’t be possible either.
Edit: Hehe, Bob beat me to it
Welcome to the Forum.
The Pioneer DVR-115D cannot perform LightScribe functions.
A Pioneer DVR-115D cannot perform LableFlash functions but however through simple Firmware DVR-A15J (DVR-115L) crossflashing can perform LableFlash functions. Free LableFlash software is available at (http://labelflash.jp).
If you desire to obtain some information on the Pioneer DVR-115D to DVR-A15J (DVR-115L) CrossFlashing procedures suggest visiting the CD Freaks dedicated Pioneer DVD Burner Forum (http://club.cdfreaks.com/f87) and review the Pioneer DVR-115D CrossFlashed to DVR-A15-J (DVR-115L) (http://club.cdfreaks.com/f87/pioneer-dvr-115d-crossflashed-dvr-a15-j-dvr-115l-241260) posting.

The Pioneer 1910LS can do Lightscribe.
Amplifying information ->
The Pioneer DVR-1910 is just a ‘Retail’ version of the Pioneer DVR-115D. The Pioneer DVR-115D doesn’t contain any software but the Pioneer DVR-1910 is packaged with Nero software hence the ‘Retail’ label. Both the Pioneer DVR-1910 and DVR-115D are totally unable to perform ANY LightScribe functions. Both the Pioneer DVR-1910 and Pioneer DVR-115D are truly Pioneer Drives actually manufactured by Pioneer.
The DVR-1910LS is the ‘Retail’ version of the DVR-113KG. Both the DVR-1910LS and DVR-113KG perform LightScrible functions.
It should be noted that the both the DVR-1910LS and DVR-113KG Drives are not “REALY†Pioneer DVD Drives actually manufactured by Pioneer but are DVD Drives actually manufactured by ASUS. Both the DVR-1910LS and DVR-113KG Drives are ReBadged ASUS DRW-2014LI Drives.
