Can see the .avi file icons, but can't play

Hello

I copied some media files (*.avi) to a DVD-R (Verbatim 16x) using my Hitachi DVD+/-RW drive on my Dell PC running Windows XP. I am using Nero 7, but after writing the DVD I can see the icons but can’t play the files. WM 10 gives me error message.

The strange thing is I made another data-dvd with again media files (*.avi), which works fine.

In third case, I copied to data files each about 2GB to dvd. I cannot read on my Dell PC but I can read on my laptop.

This is weird stuff. I don’t know really what to do. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Hi Kosmic. What is the error message you get from WMP? You may have burned at too high a speed, particularly if some drives will read the files and some won’t. If windows explorer shows full details for the files it may be a player thing. I use the free VLC media player with ffdshow (Google both for free downloads) and don’t have many problems with AVIs or other MPEG4 file types. Many files that WMP reports as corrupt play fine with VLC.

I was reading some posts yesterday, and it seems that DMA might have caused the problem. In the history log I found one entry saying that DMA on DVD RW is not ON. But I’m not sure what that means, so I am posting Nero SpeedTest and History Log.
