Can low humidity cause problems with DVDs?

Greetings -

There has been very low humidity in my house recently, and several of my DVDs are not functioning correctly. They play for a short time and then I get a message to check the disk for stains or scratches. This just started and about 10 of my disks have been affected. I doubt that all of those disks really are damaged. Could the low humidity be the cause?

Thanks,
Dan

What do these discs ID as?

typically speaking i would use Quality discs (i.e. Verbatim (or Taiyo Yuden)) and burn @ 8x and you most likely wont have any issues
