Can DVD-RAM media be write-protected so that it is impossible to UNwrite-protect it? I think that would be one requirement for any media with claims to being useful for archiving in requlated environments (any business's accounting data for example). I have the same question about blu-ray.
RAM can be write-protected, but it can also be un-protected. That's why it's called "re-writable" media. For true write protection, you would want write-once media.
