Can a stock 2500 really burn a DVD-R at 8X?

If so, why can’t it burn a G05 8X ridata DVD-R at 8X? Poor media support I guess :stuck_out_tongue:

We all know NEC is not known to be the first to supply uptodate “stock” firmware.
But with all the great firmware “adjusting” guys this is no problem for most of us.

To my knowledge HP 420n_131 firmware supports RiTEKG05 up to 8x.
(HP 420n is a OEM NEC-2500)
Pay a visit to Dangerous Brothers and you will find what you are looking for.

I have a 2510 (same hardware) with stock 2.16 FW. I burned a spindle of G05 but had to back off to 6x for optimum scans. I know it’s just one data point, but with my drive G05 @ 8x is marginal.

I think you could flash your drive to 2510 and expect similar results. But the media and the drives vary so who knows?

Some firmwares can, others can’t.

My 2500 is stock.

For 8x writing, I use Fuji, Sony and Verbatim (4x).

2500 w/ stock fw writes TY 4x -R @ 8x.
For G05 use Herrie’s 1.07v2b5dlbs.

Coz nec were aware of the varying media quality from ritek ? well thats what everyone was saying at the time.
