Calibration error

Hi, recently I tried burning dvd video files using nero 6, and when the burning process starts and the formatting of the dvd commences, an error message appears saying there was a power calibration error. I’m using a TDK dvd+rw on a sony dw-u50a driver with latest firmware. Any help would be appreciated. Here is the log to my recent burning attempt:

Edit out your serial numbers if you’re able to.

Why did you choose 1x for the burn speed? These Ricoh are a 4x RW so 4x would be the speed to use.

It’s NEVER a good idea to burn so slowly, always start at the medias rated speed.

These also a thread , updated within the last few hours where problems with power calibration are talked about. It’s here

Thanks for your reply. The dvd+rw says it can support 1 to 4x, but before burning with nero for this particular dvd it only gives me the option of 1x and 2x (as well as maximum) speeds, it did the same thing when I tried on 2x speed. Also, I’ve had success with burning on sony dvd+rw, but for some reason my laptop does not want to recognise the dvd’s after i burn them. I’ll keep trying though.

And damn, it won’t let me edit out the serial numbers :frowning:

PM a moderator & they’ll do it for you.

Try Verbatim DVD+RW, these tend to be better than most others.

Agree with TimC. I had this a while ago (Sony DUR710) in a pack of 25 Philips DVD+R all was fine till the last few disks maybe about 10 after my first power caliberation error got it for the rest of the pack, got a new pack of same disk error dissapeared.

I have exactly the same dvd burner over here. Whenever I try to write a DVD it will fail with a calibration error. the drive has been send back before though Sony says there is nothing wrong with it. And actually they are right. The DW-U50A and specifically it’s firmware is designed to write only 2.4x speed DVD’s. even 1x-8x speed dvd’s won’t be written.

Note to Sony: You guys suck for this.

P.S.
after they had returned they left their test DVD in it suckers… It was full of porn.

My burner, a dw-u50a too, seems to have ‘died’ on me. The stupid computer tells me “this device is working properly” which it of course isn’t. I can play CDs and DVDs, but cannot burn either, whatever the program used.

The Troubleshooter, as expected asks you every question except, “I can play CDs /DVDs, but cannot burn them”.

I have used various recording media and although simulations are completed normally, the power calibration error halts the recording. The drive also seems incapable of formatting RW dsks.
