Burnt CD's won't work

Hi. I have recently bought my first burner, actually it’s a re-writer (Asus 4816a) and I’m still learning how to burn Cd’s. I have burnt a couple of backups for my games but altho they will install , when you want to play them it says there is no CD in the drive. The Cd Rom seems to be really slow to start and sometimes it seems to spin in the drive and not read. I’ve been reading the forum and there is a lot of talk about firmware updates but I wouldn’t have a clue how to do that. Can someone explain a bit about that for me. Thanks. :wink:

Your writer can handle most modern copy protections but you have to use capable software and even then there are many tricks and wrinkles to the copying process.

What are you actually trying to copy and what software are you using? Further, do you have an ordinary cd/dvd rom in addition to your writer? If so, what is it?

Thanks for your reply. I’m using Nero I’ve been trying to burn “Nox” Black and White" and Diablo2" I burnt one copy of Nox and it burnt Ok but then won’t read it…it said there was no CD in drive. That got wrecked so I tried to burn another copy and now it says read error or something like that. I want to do a firmware update because on the Aus site it said it fixed a problem with VCD’s or something. I like using Virtual drive and my burnt CD’s won’t work with that. Any help would be hugely appreciated :bigsmile:
Oh I forgot, no I don’t have another Cd ROM or DVD player, just the re-writer.

OK, Nox uses safedisc 1 as its protection scheme whilst Diablo 2 uses securom new.

Forget about using nero to copy either of them.

Try downloading the trial version of alcohol 120% and use that to make your copies using safedisc 1 settings for Nox and securom new (not securom new 4.x) settings for Diablo 2.

[li]You’ll get lots of read errors and the reading process will initially be quite slow when reading Nox as there will be hundreds of read errors in the first ~10,500 sectors. Don’t worry about. Just be patient. When it’s finished the first ~10,500 secyors it will read the rest of the cd in only a couple of minutes.
[/li][li]To play your copy of diablo 2, you’ll need to enable Ignore media type in alcohol’s emulation options since you only have a writer.

copied game cd’s usely won’t work,
because of the copy-protecion.http://club.cdfreaks.com/newreply.php?action=newreply&threadid=76159&#

ITS BAD we all know…
Try an other burnsoftware ,like cloneCD;
Don’t mess with the firmware if it’s not really neccessary.http://club.cdfreaks.com/newreply.php?action=newreply&threadid=76159&#

Thankyou both very much. I did try cloneCD once but couldn’t make head nor tail of it so I gave up. I’ll try alcohol whatever and see how I go. Muchly appreciated :bigsmile:
