Burning

Hi there!

I have a number of concerns I hope you wouldn’t mind me bombarding all of you with. I’ve searched high and low throughout the forum and on the web, and I’ve had little to no luck. I’m extremely paranoid about my data archiving and I’m pretty fed up, so here I am.

My current setup:
BenQ DW1655 DCDB
Nero 6.6.1.4

  1. My DVDs are experiencing uneven dye burns where there are multiple gradient rings (not the actual CD’s dye’s problem). However, the DVDs burn and read fine. I had this problem in the past with my CD writer, and I simply solved it by burning at a lower speed. Now I am using a DVD burner and tried burning a 8X DVD-R at 4X, but with no avail; I encounter the same problem again. The next lowest speed I could burn at was 2.4X, and it was too slow that it encountered a write error and coastered. Seeing how I solved it before, would it most likely be due to my hardware incapabilities? Any solutions besides just getting a bloody new computer? My settings perhaps?

  2. It looks like some BenQ DVD writers have trouble recognizing some types of blank media. Apparently my BenQ is having the same problem – it will not recognize my TY 8X DVD-R (TYG02). Could it possibly be the main reason for the other problems I asked here (questions #1, 3, 4 – e.g. why I’m burning messed up cds, etc.)? Unfortunately I don’t have another type of blank DVD to test on.

  3. I am not able to use the DVD Disc Quality Test feature in Nero CD-DVD Speed. I upgraded to the latest version to see if it would solve itself but it didn’t. It just has the “No Additional Sense Information” error. I’ve seen other users with the same burner being able to use it though.
EDIT: A DVD-R I burned with Roxio before I uninstalled it is readable for the Quality Test though!

  4. I encountered the “Parameter Value Invalid” error at the very end of the Nero CD-DVD Speed Test after it was hanging for 3 minutes (after the eject/load test).

I’ve attached the error log from the 2.4X burn attempt (before upgrading to 6.6.1.4) just to show you my settings.
