Burning with Nero Express

I am having difficulty getting Nero Express 6 to complete the burn of a video slide show onto disk. Am using a CD-RW disk.
When I add the file (in MPEG-1 format), the burn commences but then I get a “Power Calibration Error” and a note to say that the “Burn Process failed at 4x(600KB/s)”.
Can provide the log for the process if needed.

My slide show runs fine on my PC, but committing it to a CD to play on my DVD Player is a stumbling block.

Any thoughts please.

Power calibration errors are caused by the drive and possible incompatibilities with the media you are using. You can try updating the firmware of the drive, or use different blank disks.

Power calibration errors are caused by the drive and possible incompatibilities with the media you are using. You can try updating the firmware of the drive[Any suggestions as to how I do that?], or use different blank disks [have tried CD-R, CD-RW and DVD+RW without success.]

Media is another term for the disks you are using.

We would have to know the make and model burner that you have before we can advise you on how to update the firmware. The Nero log will probably have that information in it.

Have you been able to burn other projects with this particular burner? Recently?

The following is the log of the last burn I attempted using Nero. I have not succeeded with burning at all this year. Have used PixPlay burner software as well as Nero Express and used CD-R, CD-RW and DVD+RW disks:

First of all, Nero is reporting that DMA is off for your burner. It is essential that your burner be working in Ultra DMA mode. Look in my signature and click on the link for Womble’s guide to checking and restoring DMA.
Follow the instructions in that guide.

Once you make sure DMA is enabled for the drive, you might want to upgrade the firmware. Your current firmware is TS01. The latest available is TS05, found here: http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/office/optical-disc-drives/cd-rw/SH-R522C/RSWN/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=support

Have enabled the DMA Ultra and also updated the firmware to TS05 but without any luck??? So far have tried to use the PixPlay (slideshow software) internal burner system and Nero Express as well - both have bombed out during the burn process. Have tried all disk types from CD-R, CD-RW and DVD-RW. The CD-R received the file in Nero and replay of my slideshow looked OK at the start on my DVD player, but part way through the images and music went all jumpy.
At the commencement of the burn process there are options VCD and SVCD which give different quality outputs I think? Is it vital which of these I should use? Is it possible that I have something wrong with my burner?
Other people seem to have problems as well as far as I can gather??

Choosing 52x as write speed in this case is madness.

Also, this is not good:

Free physical memory: 74MB (76028kB)

Create an image as output and burn this with imgburn.

Hi Kerry56.
Not having much luck and feeling like I am groping in the dark here?
Think I now have TS05 rather than TS01 and DMA is now ON for my burner. However, the attached latest Log File of my attempt to burn using NeroExpress may assist you in diagnosing my problem. Still getting Burn Failed at 4X(600KB/s).
The write speed appears to be 5X I think.
Thank you for your patience.

Your above log still shows DMA off and TS01.

When checking DMA the most important thing to confirm is Current Transfer Status. This HAS to be in Ultra DMA mode. Nero sometimes reports this incorrectly, but it is the only log we have to look at here. You might try burning with ImgBurn (a free program), and if you have another failed burn, look at Help–>ImgBurn Logs and post the log from that program.

I assume you downloaded S05 firmware and read the instructions for flashing the drive? As pfloyd1 pointed out, it still seems to be using the earlier firmware.

Sigh! It is known for ages that Nero can’t report DMA state of a drive if other drivers than atapi.sys are used.
From the log:

CdRomPeripheral : TSSTcorp CD-R/RW SH-R522C nvatabus Port 0 ID 2 DMA: Off
So the original poster is using Nvidia’s IDE drivers.

@mervl:
There are two things you can try.

[ul]
[li]Uninstall the Nvidia IDE drivers and use Windows default drivers instead. To do so, go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Software and select the Nvidia installer which should be located there. Review all the options and only select the IDE drivers to uninstall. Reboot and let Windows redetect the controller and drives.[/li]
[li]Try higher speeds like 8x or even 16x. Low speeds like 4x are often not supported very well with modern “high speed” optimised blank media[/li][/ul]

Michael

There is nothing wrong with NVidia drivers. Have been using them since the earth was created and have never had any problems.

The drivers only had problems with version of firmware with the Benq 1620 drive and was fixed in later firmwares.
