Burning Time on 708a

vbimport

#1

I own a Plextor 708a for some time now & I do burn all my DVD’s for use as backups, but I just noticed now that my speed for burning has been around 50 minutes even though it says it burning at 4x I use dvd shrink & Nero I tried + & - R’s all do the same thing I just started using FujiFilm spindles I got from BestBuy both the + & - r’s are made in Japan & show up being made by TY.
I have as yet to make a coaster.
Any ideas???

Did you check if DMA is enabled for your drive?

#3

if you’re using the latest DVD SHRINK to compress which has the NERO ENGINE built in which will then automatically start burning the dvd after the compression is done then 50 minutes is about right…if you’re just opening up NERO BURN after the DVD SHRINK process has been done and it takes 50 minutes to burn the dvd then your drive could be in PIO MODE…then you need to check to make sure the drive is in DMA MODE.

Gotta watch my typin’ 2, what makes dma jump to pio mode

#9

what makes dma jump to pio mode

supposedly when there are more than 6 errors in XP the drive will automatically revert back to PIO MODE. i don’t exactly remember what the errors are but it’s a known fact that it reverts back to PIO MODE. which is why i haven’t upgraded to XP yet…i still run windows 2000 pro on all of my pc’s. i haven’t decided which pc will be the guinea pig for xp pro.

“i haven’t decided which pc will be the guinea pig for xp pro”

Damn talk about behind the times, XP been around since 2001 and i have never saw any of my computers convert back to pio mode…weird!
How about a taste of Longhorn DVD ADDICT?
I’m actually using a 4 yr old xp right now,i just cant think of installing all the programs and settings i have back to a formatted drive, would take weeks if not moths, i have had 3-4 mobo’s on this copy of xp,and various video cards…etc.
Only thing that bother me is seeing programs in add/remove programs that i cant remove anymore.
