Burning the same DVD disc twice!

Has anyone experienced this before?

I was burning a BenQ 8x DVD-R (MID Sony 08D1) to 4460MB on my DW1620 when Nero came up with an error message towards the end of the burn (>4 GB) that the burn had failed.

Well, I could still see the avi divx files burned earlier than the 4 GB mark and could even play them in the DW1620. But once I had ejected the disc, now the burners all claim it is an empty disc! This batch of media seems to be rather lower quality than a previous batch I had used. The DW1620 was burning it at 4x despite its specced 8x speed.

Taking the disc out, I can see the burned area as lighter than the unburned so obviously something stopped Nero somehow. The disc is actually playable in my standalone divx players too.

Now the fun part, I popped the disc back into my LG GSA-4163B burner, fired up Nero and it still appears as an empty disc. OK, it asked for it! So I proceeded to reburn the exact same files (8x chosen, actual 6x now) onto this disc and Nero reported the burn as successful!

Interesting, isn’t it?

Only problem now is that the disc is not recognisable by any of my burners… CD-DVD Speed reports a “no disc inserted” message. And
the standalone players won’t load it either so it is now a confirmed coaster. lol

One of the little “bugs” with the BenQ, is that other writers often see the burned disks as blanks. I’ve never managed to reburn them successfully though.

Reburning them usually means overburning the same area twice and hence it destroys the existing data because the burns aren’t aligned and the chemical is burnt too much resulting in high beta/jitter readings. Hence unreadable discs.

Exactly - he might as well shove them in the microwave…it would have much the same effect :slight_smile:
