Burning issues (LG GSA-H12L)

[qanda]This thread is about the LG GSA-H12L. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]I have tried different burning programs, but no matter what I try I keep getting failures.

For some reason I suddenly can’t use the tried and trusted media that I’ve been using on this burner all along. It completely rejected my Verbatim + and -R’s, which really shocked me because those are supposed to be the way to go. I was using Phillips but I could only use Nero and no other burning program but I had about a 90 percent success rate with them. As I live in a remote area I have a hard time getting more. I bought TDK-R’s today, which I used to use religiously with this burner with no problem at all…and my firmware is up to date for the burner. Oh yeah…I usually burn at 4x but I just thought I’d try it at a different speed this one time.

Here’s my Nero log:

Burn process failed at 16x (22,160 KB/s)

Try burning at 8x instead of 16x.

I usually burn at 4x, but I could try it at 8x but i’ll probably get the same error.

this is what your log said:
Burn process failed at 16x (22,160 KB/s)
You need to check your burn speed settings in Nero

Yes, I burned it at 16x that time but , I always burn at 4x, I tried it at a faster speed because I was running out of ideas lol

The TDK’s you used before may have had a different mid code than these CMC MAG AM3 disks. The errors shown in your log appear to be related to a poor match between your burner and these particular disks.

Try burning with IMGBURN and see if that works, burn at 8x

I have an imgburn fail log too but i tried that at 4x, but here is that log:

I guess what’s suprising to me is that verbatims are totally rejected by my burner now, and I know I used those in the past too with no problem.

This is a different burn failure…the PMA thing…which I have had issues with in the past but those weren’t the same circumstances

What are you writing?

I had converted an avi file into dvd format in another program first. I took the name of the file out of the burn log.

I am guessing when the AVI is converted the output is 2 files, AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS. When burning with ImgBurn in Build Mode, you only need to choose the VIDEO_TS folder. You should probably check for a firmware update for that drive, use better media such as Verbatim (widely available) & Taiyo Yuden (TY), (available online). General rule of thumb is to burn at half the maximum rated speed of the blank, for example, 16X burn at 8X.

http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=86750

I have used verbatims, both + and -,(they were my biggest coaster output) but my drive hates them now. I also have the current firmware for my burner.

You should always have a rewritable DvD when it comes to diagnosing burning errors that way you won’t be making a lot of coasters?

The conversion from AVI to DvD and then to disk, Is this the only case where your burns are failing?

There are only three things that are in play here.

Burner
Firmware
Media

Can you backup a normal DvD structure and burn it to disk without failure?

:cool::cool:

You mean like an MP3 DVD or something of that sort?

You might find this thread interesting.

Your log shows VL01. Click Software upgrades on the left hand side & do a search, you will find VL02.

What did you use to convert avi to DVD?..
If I had to guess,I’d say the drive is failing, since you have latest FW…That said, just try different media and see what combo works for you…

I didn’t have V2 of the firmware, I updated it, same thing. But…I ran my old TDKs through DVD identifier and they are the real thing…these ones are CMCs. But I don’t know why they didn’t like my verbatims at all. I really just don’t know what else it could be.
