Welcome to the forum

For an IDE drive, the DMA should be enabled. Try to fix this and see if it solve

Hi,

yeah DMA is enabled. i put a different DVD Drive in and that burn to 70% then failed so it isnt my drive it must be software.

Shall i try uninstalling nero and then re-installing ?

Impz

Most of times this issue is caused by a low quality disc. What discs are you using exactly?

To exclude a software issue, try to burn a disc with a different software. I suggest ImgBurn (a free and excellent software).

Yup, the media could be better.

Try better media quality.

i have tried with memorex discs too and still no luck ! my discs worked fine up until about a week ago

CMC MAG. AM3 (the first discs you used) work like a charm for me at 8x, never a duff burn - can you try those again at 8x, rather than 16x?

I’ve just tried it at 8x and still no luck. have also tried <CMC MA> <G. AE1> at 8x and 16x and still no luck !

I am really tearing my hair out. the drive burns CD-R fine it just wont do DVD- R’s. I have updated the firmware in the drive and have also tried my phillips Litescribe drive too which suffers from the same issue albeit later on in the burn process.

Anyone else got any idea’s ?

Impz :a

OK. Let’s return for a second to the DMA thing.

See the link in my sig (“How to check/enable DMA”). When you click on it, there is a link in the first post to a file called resetdma.vbs - download and run that.

If it finds any drive not in DMA mode, it will reset them and require a reboot.

If that doesn’t work, then better media like Verbatim is probably the next step.

Good luck!

DMA is definitely enabled for all IDE channels.

I cant understand why i had no issues at all with my media then it suddenly stopped working. I have had 100’s of successful burns with this media and even the first 10 off the spindle were fine which says to me that it isn’t a faulty batch.

and like I said above I put my Phillips drive in which fails between 70%-90% but works fine on my other system. I am really confused and have no idea where to turn !

To exclude a software issue, try with a different one. I suggest Imgburn to run a test

Another test you can do is with cd-dvd speed. Try to run the create disc test and let’s see what happen during the burn

That’s a great idea :iagree:
