Burning DVD issues

Hi, have read lots of info on this drive but I can`t get good quality burns using CMC MAG AM.3 or TYG03 media. I can burn a disc and it will play but then fail soon after. I have done some disc quality scans with Nero Discspeed4 and I get 57% quality with lots of errors. All scans are done with a Liteon drive as my LG does not support scanning.

TYG03 Disc 57%

Done another burn with TYG03 on the LG and that got 84%. I dont know what could be causing the bad burns, I have replaced the LG once allready but am thinking of taking it back and getting something else. I also did a scan of a TYG03 disc burnt with my Sony PVR and that scan came back also at 95% The three pics should be in order of test results. Any other info needed and Ill get it.

Thanks in advance

Will

Have you tried to burn with Verbatim media? Also without knowing the speed of the media itself is hard to know as well what speed to burn at but usually you burn at half the rated media speed to insure proper burns. Also since not knowing what your doing while your burning is hard to know as well. But if your having that much media problem then the most likely cause is the media brand your using itself. This takes into account that burner firmware is updated and the burning software is updated. But not having more info on the software doing the actually burning would help as well. Also did you test the source dvd itself to make sure it properly worked before trying to copy and burn it>???

Hi, no I havent tried Verbatim media. The media I have is rated at 16x. I did do a couple of 8x burns and maybe thats where I have the good burns. Dont do much else while burning maybe browse the web but I have noticed that when the drive spins up and does the lead in my mouse wont move, its frozen. As for the burner firmware its not the latest as from what I can make out all the latest firmware gives is Vista support and I dont need that. I am using Nero 8, I have 5 and 6 also but dont use them. The source dvd works fine in the PVR that recorded it and in other dvd players. Also I made a disc on the PVR using the TYG03 media and that was fine. I think Im going to take this recorder back and get something else as it sometimes makes a noise when burning starts.

Done 2 burns with CMC MAG AM3 media I know not the best by a long shot but 0% quality at 16x and at 8x I got 93% so clearly I can`t burn at 16x but then the 16x dvd is playing.

The 8x looks better but I still get a high number of PI errors, could this be my dvd drive that i`m using to scan with?

Thanks Will

Too bad there are a lot of fake TY discs in the market. Even if mediacode is TYG03 it is possible that you got some fake media.

What brand are these discs?

Not sure of the brand when I ordered them they said Taiyo Yuden 16x

I never bought from SVP, but for what I know indeed these are genuine TY discs

Guess I’ll be taking my drive back again to get something else, what I don`t know.

Hi again, right well I took the LG drive back and now have a Samsung SH-S223C/RSMS. Burnt a couple of test discs that play ok but when I do the verify in Nero I noticed that DMA is off for all my Sata drives (3HD`s and the Samsung DVD-RW)

In my device manager it says they are all set to Sata 1.5 so which is true?

Sata 1 mode is for ODD, sata 2 is only for HDD.
Nero reports the DMA state wrong…

My mobo only supports Sata 1 so I can`t have Sata 2 set for anything.
