I assume it’s an issue of the Device control interface.
Alcohol’s default interface is SPTD.
Afaik AnyDVD (as well as other tools) don’t function properly with some SPTD versions.
If you want to retry the Alcohol+AnyDVD Combo choose "Windows ATAPI/SCSI Control Interface"
instead (Options/General) …i’ve never tried that though
btw. on the Alcohol Main page it’s stated that “Due to the present legal restrictions DVD titles
protected with CSS protection can not be backed up”.
As suggested by cholla you can create a backup using AnyDVD only.
I don’t have AnyDVD, but i guess it’s recommended for DVDs to first rip to folder,
and then burn e.g. with ImgBurn (free), CDBurnerXP (free), CloneDVD, nero etc.
Among others you can also try this free all-in-1 app:
http://www.bdlot.com/dvd-iso-master/download.htm (scroll down a little bit to get
the “BDlot DVD ISO Master - Free Download” link).
****ok so i changed the options to the Windows ATAPI, and after it burnt the disc, i tried it in my dvd player. it played some of the audio, but it was very broken while showing a black screen (NO VIDEO AT ALL) so that option did get me a little further, but no dice yet. I think i will try to rip with ANYDVD now, and then use something else to burn it to disc. I just need to figure out this compression thing, IF i compress it to a SL disc, will it still play on a stand alone dvd player>???
