Burning CDS 200 Audio CD!

I have a CDS200 protected cd, and have trouble burning it! I want to stay away from anything that has the potential to scratch my lovely imported cd, such as the marker trick or the tape trick. I have 2 drives at the moment, a AOpen 1640 Pro DVD and a TDK 40/12/48X VeloCD.

When i try creating the image with the AOpen, i end up with a image with “SYNC field not detected! Image may be corrupt.” message when i try to mount it with Daemon Tools.

When i use the TDK, i just end up with endless read sector errors and takes a VERY LONG TIME. What settings should i use in Clonecd? I am using the latest version. How should i configure the fast error skip settings? or the bad sector scanner?

BTW, if i use the intelligent bad sector scanner, and skip 100 sectors at a time, what happens if the errors stop occuring at sector 675(for example)? does it skip the GOOD 25 sectors? or does it go back from 700(closest multiple of 100) to find the last readable sector (ie 675)?

Your TDK should be a LiteOn :slight_smile:

Install firmware ZS0P into it. This one is good for reading Cactus 200 discs.
With the “wrong” drive, you have no chance to read the CD.

My TDK is not a liteon drive :frowning:
I live in AUstralia, and i don’t think they sell TDK badged Liteons here.

I can read the cd with my TDK however, but i am sick of using the Default player that comes with it, since the quality is really poor…

What is the exact name of the firmware of your TDK?

Where the hell can you set a clonecd read mode? I get this when i try burning the cds200 protected cd with the AUDIO profile in clonecd witht the “read 1st session” option enabled and fast error skip to ON. This occured aftet the 16th Sector

Ok i just did an image with CloneCD Version 4.2.0.2

However, when i mounted the image with daemon tools, the first track was not playable, and throughout the album were random ticks or static. How should i change this? I took 29 mins to do THIS!!!

Your drives recognises every single sector as unreadable. The very same happens if I insert a Cactus 100 disc into my LiteOn.

You need to find someone who has got better hardware for this job.

what do you mean it can’t read every single sector!?
it just can’t read the first 10700 or so. It can read the rest!

Try reading it with another drive. For example: Plextor (any model), LiteOn (latest models with latest firmware), Yamaha CRW-F1.

I WOULD use another drive if i could!! Problem is that 1) Plextor is RARELY sold here 2) Not many hve LiteOns since they are still relatovely new in Australia.

Funny thing is that when i tried burning it the 2nd time, everything went well, except that the first track was unreadible ie starting from the 2nd track. Also, there are scratches, ticks or whatever u want to call it, at varying intervals on the songs throughout the CD. How can i stop the ticking?

CactusDataShield200 discs contain many artificial C2 errors in order to produce clicks and drop outs when ripping.
The only way to avoid this is to reduce the reading speed. But this is no guarantee for clear WAVes. Many drives cannot rip audio at a reduced speed, other can but also produce that distorsion.
Current Plextor recorders need to read CDS200 discs at quadruple speed in order to achieve good WAVes. The old UltraPlex-SCSI-CDROMs and the 12/20 Plex-SCSI-CDROM can extract most of those discs @fullspeed without any problems.
You should also try ExactAudioCopy 0.9 beta 4, installed in expert mode. Choose burst mode in the drive settings and try to select a slow reading speed. Maybe you need ‘Action -> Detect TOC manually’ in order to see the right table of contents.
But, as already mentioned, it only depends on your drive if you can extract a protected audio disc or not.

How do you set a slow read speed in EAC??

Also, how long does it take to manually detect TOC? It took over 20mins so i stopped it!Thinking my pc was not responding!

It can take minutes…really (but not 20)

First of all, it depends on your drive and on the kind of protection whether EAC can detect the TOC manually or not.

Secondly it might be helpful to update your ASPI layer to 4.72 or to 4.60.

However, you should switch off the AutoInsertNotification mechanism of Windows (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom\autorun=0 or via device manager) and you should avoid any Explorer actions as long as the protected disc is in the drive.

Detecting a TOC manually takes up to 5 minutes in my Plextor PX-32TSi, PX-20TSi and PX-W1610TA.
