Burner won't burn DVDs faster then 2.4x

Hopefully someone can give me a solution to this problem i am having with a Plextor PX810SA dvd burner.
It will play anything i put in it and it will burn cds without any problems but as soon as i try to burn a dvd at more then 2.4x i keep getting errors. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office” />
Error message is “internal Target Failure”
I have already updated the firmware to the lastest release 1.01, and all drivers are up to date for everything else and tried different brands of dvds but still as soon as it starts to burn a dvd faster then 2.4x i get an error message right away.
Tried to use Nero and Roxio to name a few and it’s the same thing on all of them.
Since i know you will ask here is the log from nero:

not sure here but looks like DMA is not enabled.
if this is the case then your in PIO mode which will surely only let you burn at no faster than 2x…

SATA devices will pretty much always show DMA is off in Nero. :flower:

Are you just trying to use DVD+RW, or write-once media, as well?

I know that it says in Nero that DMA is off but i checked and it is on so not sure why Nero says it isn’t.
And yes i have only tried it on DVD+RW media for now because of the errors i have been getting i didn’t want to make myself some new coasters
I will give DVD+R’s a try and see if i get faster speeds then 2.4x.
But i still don’t get why i can burn CD+RW at max speed and not dvd’s.

What is your DVD+RW rated speed? perhaps 2.4X?

Get Verbatim RW media.

My burner’s speed rating is 4x and i am already using Verbatim RW media and i have tried it with Maxell and a couple others as well with no luck.
It keeps burning only at 2.4x instead of 4x and i am running out of ideas on why this could be.
Can the fact that i have a raid setup really be the reason for this as someone stated in an earlier post?

I’m guessing there is an incompatibility between the burner and the SATA chipset it is attached to.
… and i am already using Verbatim RW media …
No, you are not. Look at the log you posted:

You are using Ritek media sold by Verbatim, not Verbatim media. It may sound like splitting hairs but it’s really a big difference.

Hi,
I’m guessing there is an incompatibility between the burner and the SATA chipset it is attached to.
According to the log, it’s an Nvidia chipset. That should do quite well.
I’d suggest either updating Nvidia chipset drivers or uninstalling the Nvidia IDE/SATA drivers and using Windows default drivers.

Michael

No i wasn’t using Verbatim when i posted the log but i went out and got some a little later and i still have the same prob.
I have updated ALL drivers and firmware for everything in my system without any change with my problem so far.
I find it strange that i will burn but only at 2.4x and not 4x like it should.
Usualy it either burns or not so this is a first for me.

It should?
Well, if the drive were properly set up and working it probably would burn 4x rated Rw at 4x.
