Hi baggman

You have posted in the DVDFab forum and it seems your using Nero, I will move your thread to the move copy software forum where you should receive the help your looking for.

A dvd movie titled “A Haunting”

#5

Did you just do a straight copy from the retail disc, or did you strip it off the disc first with DVD decrypter?

What data is the format in? Are we talking DVD structure with .vob files or an .avi file?

Are you perhaps burning this as a DVD data disc instead of DVD Video?

Now that’s a good question. Never even considered that might happen.
How can I be sure I’m burning a video instead of a data disc?

#8

Well, this is where it gets a bit tricky.
A properly formatted retail DVD that you get from a store or create in a movie making program actually IS a data disc. It’s just that DVD players are able to read those data files and display them as video and menus on your screen.
Take a look at the files that are on the disc by right clicking and choosing “explore” then tell us what kind of files are on you disc, complete with file extensions and all. Once we see that, we can likely tell you what’s going wrong. If you simply burned an .avi file to your disc, then most DVD players aren’t going to read it.

Did as you advised. Inserted disc(verbatim, by the way), clicked on explore, but no files displayed.

with a working disc. it show audio ts and video ts files.

The non-working discs (3 so far) show burn completed sucessfully, but don’t play in computer or stand alone dvd player.

Thanks SJ…
What forum did you move it to and how can I find it?

#12

Well, I’m not sure where it got moved to either, but when you find out, can you post a link here so I can follow?

At any rate, the video ts folder is what you should be seeing. If you look inside of that, you will see .vob and .bup files. These are the video files and menu “trigger” files that DVD players look for.

If there isn’t anything on the disc, then the your drive just isn’t writing the data to the disc. So we can narrow down the problem, can you trying a quick cd data disc? That might tell us if your problem has to do with hardware or software.

This is a bit confusing. I don’t get any files to show up on the discs that recently show burn completed sucessfully. I see the folders you are talking about on discs that were done before and actuslly playback.
SJ, if you are getting this can you tell me where you move to to? Perhaps there is help there… checked the nero forum but don’t see it…

Sorry you can find it here-> http://club.myce.com/f62/

#15

Baggman,
Sorry, I didn’t mean to confuse you.

Your laser isn’t writing anything to your blank DVD. To find out whether this is limited to DVDs or not, it would be helpful if you would try and burn a small file to a blank cd and see if that shows up on the disc when you are done.

#16

The media choice is kinda poor and the burner doesnt even recognize the media properly… try with Verbatim media.

Am alredy using Verbatim blanks. Am told, and I also agree, these are the best to use… Got something better?

You need to select DVD Video as the project type and not DVD-ROM.

The files you have should be .vob, .ifo & .bup for DVD video files.

If they’re not then you haven’t got proper DVD Video files.

Having selected DVD Video in Nero, all your files go into the VIDEO_TS folder and when this is burnt it should produce a DVD Video compliant disc.

As chef has said though it could be that you’re already burning compliant discs and your problem is actually media related.

Ok, I thought about all you guys have been telling me to try per what is happenning here…
I have discovered that if i try to make a copy of a decrypted disc (a disc made from the original using Fab to make a vts file) using DVDShrink the disc will pop out and iI will get a sucussefully burned message; only to find that it will not playback - the stand alone says that the disc may not have playback or it will say bad disc.
When I use nero to make a copy of the (decrypted) playable dvd it burns a perfect copy.
If I try to use nero to make a back up it goes through all that it should do even up to the piont when the dics pops out ands says burned sucessfull, but it won’t play back.
If I use the nero to burn the vts file it comes out OK…
I asked for a good link for Shrink so that I could uninstall and reinstall Shrink using the one I just got. But I am Still having the same problems.
Can’t put my finger on what’s going wrong. Need help bad!!!

#20

DVDShrink hasn’t been updated for a long time now and it has difficulties with the output of current decrypters on certain discs that have more recent protections.

Try running the files through FixVTS before processing with DVDShrink and see if that makes a difference.
