Burn Speed

What governs the final write speed, the software or the cd writer ?
I’ve set my Writer to 1x through properties…Nero’s lowest is 4x…and WMP…only says Fast/Slow…what speed would that be?

Thanks.

Hi and Welcome,

the burn speed is determined by drive (its firmware) and the media that is used. Software may add some more restrictions (like the fast/slow thing in WMP).

You never want to burn at 1X these days.

With modern drives and hi-speed rated media, the recommended CD-R burn speed is in the range between 16x and 32x (depending on drive and media).

Yo-

CD-R rules of thumb - music = 16x and data = 24x or 32x for best results and assuming good media like Taiyo Yuden-eh!!
