Burn speed problem with Ritek R05 on 3540 and 3550

I recently burned Ritek 16X media with 1.W8 firmware on 3540. The best I could do is 4X with Nero. Nero shows the burning speed as 16X. However, the actual burn speed was only 4X. Had the same problem with 3550 and 1.Y6 Firmware. Any idea what is going on. Normally it takes about 5 to 7 minutes to burn 4.3gb information. It took almost 20 minutes with this media. Media code is as follows:

Hmm, well, high speed Ritek media is pretty bad based on not only my own opinion but the opinions of others… 8x and below is the only media I would consider buying from Ritek anymore…

I have R04 media and it’s terrible… doesn’t matter if you burn at 4x or 16x, video playback is totally unreliable. And PI/PIF errors get worse as time goes on.

4x media was the best ritek you could buy, 8x simply weren’t that good, i only had problems with 8x/16x ritek media, so i got my self some TY media :).

Actually I’ve found that my 8x Ritek media still produces excellent results after quite some time. And they were created with my failing LDW-411S that didn’t always burn correctly. Quality score is still in the mid/high 90’s when I scan them today. And they were burned back in late 2004/early 2005.

I have a similar problem with my 3540 and Verbatim MCC004 media. It start fine but about 30% in the burn it slows down to 4x and burns the rest of the disc at that speed. It used to burn it fine at 16x but suddenly this startet to happen. The funny thing is that not every disc in the same spindel has this problem. I haven’t changed anything hardware wise in my computer. I tried to reinstall Win XP but it didn’t help. The problem is both with Nero 6 & 7 and DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0
When I check the burn quality it is fine all the way through.

Ugh. I have two burners, a nec 3500a and a nec 3520…recently got a 100 pack of TDK 16x DVD+R’s from newegg…Ritek r05-001 :a These discs DO NOT burn at anything faster then 4x and have tested them on newer LG drives and have the same problem. I’m glad I have a 100 cake of 4x dvds though…not. It’s a shame as I really like sleek look of the discs and they could have been great. Maybe I can convince newegg my stack is faulty so i can return it and get something else. I’ve tried changing write strategies in mediacode speededit and nothing seems to work for these POS discs. If anyone has any solutions please feel free
