Burn process failed

Hi guys my first post and if you help me out here i’ll be sure to come back and help out cause i aint really a newbie just stuck like everybody gets at some point of there expierence, so heres my problem i could use to burn disks but can’t now on my dvd drive the disks i’ve got are fine it’s a new drive. Some idiot on the net told me to go to device manager and uninstall my Primary and secondary ide channels but i think that just generated more problems cause in the nero info tool it said some drivers were missing so i had to install my apsi drivers again but it still won’t work.

It keeps telling me Burn process failed at 2x (2,770KB/s) i dunno what to do i really hope this is a common issue so i can get this resolved as soon as possible so the fate of my computer lies on your hands..

It won’t let me edit my post so i’ll post here when i try to update my firmware with flash it tells me wrong drive can’t flash could anybdy tell me why that is.

Sorry I’m not sure to understand:
“i could use to burn disks but can’t now on my dvd drive the disks i’ve got are fine it’s a new drive”
Have you changed your drive? Do you mean you used to burn discs OK with the same drive and same discs? Then suddenly it stopped?

Also what makes you think your RW discs are fine? Can you burn them on another drive? What discs are they?

Please try being more precise…

All right there could be a chance that the disks i use aren’t all that great but i payed through the nose to get good disks thats how i figure there okay, and no i haven’t tried the disks on another drive but yeah my dyslexia sometimes happens to make me spell wrong but people with dyslexia triumph with other things that may be more slightly complicated . Anyway i’m getting away from the subject the drives new and i really don’t wanna go out and pay for more disks that won’t work, what should i do it had to happen at the time i mastered vts menu screens FUCkkkkkkkkk.

I have decided to join ur thread I may have fixed 1 of many of my probs but will soon c i will try and burn again now but stay on the forum cheers

Primary ide channel
master wdc wd400eb-00cpf0
dma on

secondary ide channel
master samsung cdrw-dvd
dma on
auto run on

slave sony dru510-a
dma on
autorun on

now this is the way it is under my ide/atapi is this right? theres 2 masters

it burned 1 finally after losing 7 discs to errors I reboted the machine about 3 times once with my foot and now it burned but sloooooow

Unfortunatlly I have some bad news for you. While your drive it a pretty good cd burner and a pretty good dvd reader, it’s not that great of a dvd burner (useable once you find the right media though). Further, it doesn’t even support the media that you are using. You can see the supported media list on aopens web site under downloads. The firmware not working doesn’t suprize me either. Thier is at least one other aopen firmware that is suposed to be for a model 1616, but it only works on a 1608. The 1608 and 1616 are the same drive except for firmware, and using modified firmware, you can flash your drive to either model. I have done some testing with various dvd medias and this drive, but unfortunatlly not with dvd+/-rw’s.
You can learn more about your drive including some of the firmwares and tests with various media on this thread.

I’m not sure if an help you further but If you have any questions I would be happy to try to answer. You problem here is defanatlly the media though (its not even supported so it is using a generic write staratagy which almost never works well).
On a side note, in your nero log, there is the line
Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)
sense key 3 is almost alway bad or incompatible media.

Thanks for your help man i notice you guys don’t disrespect the new comers which is a really positive thing,i think i’ll take your advice i’m a media programmer so i’m not really to into this field but i want to start making vts dvd movies to showcase my work for more of an impact but i was using working dvd’s so i know what to look for thanks for your help man.

p.s i’m enlightened i take bad news as a learning expierence nothing gets me down.

If dvd+r’s would work for your purposes, I would sugest trying some verbatium 16x dvd+r’s. Not only does verbatium have a reputation for being one of the best dvd medias, but myself and a few other here have used them with this drive and all got decent results. If you are thinking about getting another drive, keep the aopen too. It is actually a very good dvd reader (which can be helpfull when duplicating disks) as well as a very good cd burner/reader. I could also test some ricoh dvd+rw if you like (they are pretty common under several brands and shouldn’t be that hard to find). If you do want another burner I would sugest a benq 1640 or an nec 3540. You can get either for 40$ on newegg. The benq is on sale at compusa for 70$ before a 30$ rebate if I am not mistaken (check the bargain basment).
For other medias that work well with the aopen, check the thread that I linked to in the other post and let me know if you would like me to test a ricoh rw to see how it does.
fyi your drive can do error scanning to see how well a disk burned (though it is very slow at it). Try searching for info on cd speed here for more on that.

Thanks again i’ll keep my exsisting drive for the meantime and i’ll buy some disks i’ve used before next week, man this dvd learning can be expensive.
