"Burn process failed," always now

I have been using Nero for quite sometime and until recently have had no problems. Now I continue to get the Burn Process Failed Error. The error ususally occurs about 1-2% complete. I am using the same DVD-R as always and have not altered or added anything…Any Ideas?

Log is below.

Hi kthomas,

this sounds like a problem which occured after 2 successful written DVD’s with my new Plextor PX712A. It is discussed in the PLextor forum (Thread: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=100388 ) but meanwhile I think it is not a hardware related problem.

Little difference is that I do not get an error message but my NERO 6.3 hangs after 1 or 2 % and the writer led stops blinking and shows a reday green but disc try does not open and therefore I have to reboot the system and do not get a log file.

I’ve already contacted Ahead support by phone (very expensive - 1.86 €/min). The sent me an registry patch which enabled a extended log function of nero. It generated a 836 kb log file which is not readable via the editor. I just sent it to Ahead support and hope the will find a solution. Misterously I can burn DVD’s with PLexTools without any problem.

Did your problem only occurs with DVD. Because I can still burn CD’s…

Greatz
M.

By the way reinstalling Win XP and Nero 6.3 on a clean system does not change a thing - so spare that time

#3

@ Kthomas.
As I told before: It’s not a good idea to include your serial number in the log file!

#4

I regularly upgrade my Nero software. I too am getting a burn failure similar to yours. I am about to put my log on a new post as I have several other strange happenings to report. My log is very similar to yours.

#5

It is recommeded that DVD Writers be installed as Master on the Seondary IDE channel.
Try changing the Writer and the hard drive around first.

#6

OK I will try that. Is this likely to slow down my hard drive as i use it for video editing?

#7

I have turned the DVD to be master. Still openng and closing and sppeed of hard disc has suffered.

#8

Your NU DVDRW DDW-082 is not in UDMA mode : check this in devicemanager and switch this on :
this will give you performance increase and might solve your problem.
VDSP…AB is concidered as rather bad media, have you tried other media, just to see if gives the same error ?
Just check these 2 things and let us know how it goes from there

OK, after much fiddling and little sleep, I have made some progress: I now cannot finalize a disk! because the drive freezes at that point (reboot necessary).

To keep the list of fiddling short, I made two major changes:

  1. Downgraded firmware to B370 for this drive, due to reports that B375 could have major problems with -R media.

  2. Removed and reinstalled the latest VIA/nVIDIA chipset drivers for this board. This solved the UDMA recognition problem (well, maybe) below.

So: at this point it will write a full disk at any speed, BUT the drive will freeze when trying to finalize and need a reboot. This is strangely parallel to the situation I was in above – I could change from PIO to UDMA in the hardware settings, reboot, and sucessfully be in UDMA until I tried to burn a disk, then back to PIO. In this case, if I reflash the firmware, I can complete finalization and burn a disk-- again, only once.

Log below. You will see than DMA is now OFF for this drive and all others, media below is Samsung.

Quick update: this drive works more than well with DVDDecrypter as a writer, set to the Patin-Couffin engine. :stuck_out_tongue: arrgh. Any attempt to go through Windows’ drivers leaves it frozen…

Hi
Im in the same boat - I am trying to burn data to DVD but Nero falls over after 1%
I am not so clever with the software, log file, aspi layer etc stuff so I am struggling to follow what you are saying let alone come up with a fix!
I am using a MSI DR4A with XP Pro (NTFS)
Ritek printable G4 disks DVD-R
Nero 5.5 (came with recorder)
Trying to burn a iso rom (I have done them before OK)
I am almost certain the fault occured after I burned a few CDs then switched back to DVDs
It happened once before - my solution was to rebuild the PC - drastic but it worked for a while.

If anyone comes up with a fix please please post it

Thanks
