Burn problems with sony crx830e

Won’t burn with either jetaudio or media player.

On Sony VGN-A130B, XP Pro.

Seems to convert files, then acts like it’s burning, on the third track or so, it closes the disk. No bytes recorded. Have tried w/wo IMAPI, tried all slow speeds. No help. Tried 5 different disk brands. DMA checked on IDE host controllers. Properties: “This device is working properly.”

No firmware updates evident on Sony site.

Use a REAL burning app.

Thanks for the advice. What application would you recommend? Are you saying that this issue is not related to hardware?

chef, I’m assuming that this is the information you were suggesting I post?

Have you disabled the imapi service?

No. It’s enabled.

Just finished re-downloading the SonicStage Sony laptop software. Thinking about just trashing this entire factory-installed configuration & installing CD/DVD application that works.

Also…
Tried disabling the pxhelp20.sys by renaming Lowerdriver as Lowerdriver2 in the registry.

No help.

Disable the imapi service.
Delete the upper and lower filters, restart.

Now the drive is inaccessible. Icon shows in My Computer, but clicking generates the :F\ is not accessible" message.

No longer shows as CD/DVD combo drive. Shows as CD only.

Doesn’t mean much - just the usual windows exploder bug…

Open up devicemanager, check there.
You could even use a Nero trial.

Shows in DevMgr w/proper nomenclature. I guess I’ll just roll back the configuration & give up on burning anything until I get a decent burner - or new laptop. I’m about ready to throw this one out the window.

Putting somebody in hospital through trauma or aggravation is about all it’s good for…
