Burn failure w/ Nero 7

Been burning DVD w/ AnyDVD and DVD Shrink for years and no probelm. I did upgrade to SP2 a last week. Had some sucessful burns, then all of the sudden I started getting errors. Can’t burn anything now except a CD-ROM. I am using an external USB NEC DVD burner. Below is the log from DVD shrink. Any help would be appreciate…this driving me nuts and I cannot figure it out.

Welcome to the forum

I’d take your serial number out of the log while you can  (use the Edit button).

At first glance it looks like your NEC doesn’t support the media.

Also, what discs are you using? Edit: Nevermind, I see you’re using Sony 16x -R.

Unfortunately, I doubt you’ll be able to burn that media on your 4x burner.

Thanks!

I’ve used +r and -r DVDs in the past and had no issue. Is there soemthing to the “16x” disc that is causing the problem? It also would not burn any of my rewritable disc that I had burned on it prior. Think it jas anything to do w/ the SP2 update?

The media code for any disc must be supported in the drive’s firmware. Since yours is a 4x burner, I seriously doubt there’s support for 16x discs in the firmware.

Maybe, possibly 16x Verbatim might have a 4x write strategy in there, I don’t know.

What were the rated speeds of the discs that burned successully?

If nothing else works, I use Taiyo Yuden 8x +R disks in my old 1300a the few times I still use it. (in one of my sister’s machines now) Those disks burn extremely well at 4x. You can still buy them online at places like rima.com if you are in the US.

My 1300a has the last official firmware in it.

SP2 has nothing to do with it by the way.

You could buy a new burner for about the same cost as a 100 count spindle of Taiyo Yuden though. And it is hard to find them in smaller packages buying online. You’d get a new drive, faster burn speeds and more compatibility with newer media. And we haven’t even discussed the possibility that the 1300a may be failing. It uses a different laser to burn dvds compared to burning cds, so it may be at the end of its useful life.

Thanks! Great stuff! Sounds like it’s time to upgrade the burner.
