Build advice

I am preparing to build a new gaming system and need some advice on what to buy. I am currently looking the EVGA x58 SLI Classified MB (was told to make sure it’s a 16x16x16), and as as much DDR5 RAM that I can plug. I am thinking about using EVGA GTX 470, or 480 video cards (what ever gives me the best graphics-much difference? Can they make use of HDMIquality?) I am looking at the i920 or i950 processors and have read that the i series of CPU’s are going to be discarded very soon by Intel.

I plan to use a SSD drive for my OS and run Windows 7 and figure this will all require at least 850 watts. I don’t want to upgrade this for years to come, so where should I go from here? Thanks!!!

Sounds like you want to shell out a boatload of money for hardware that’ll drop 20-30% in price within one or two months…

GTX480 might be a little overpriced right now…

So you have to look at the reviews and decide if you want a GTX480 or a 5870, the 5870 performs just as well its a little cheaper and has better HD support.

If you have a microcenter near by, you can get the Intel 930 CPU for $200, its the best deal really.

ASUS P6X58D-E LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
CORSAIR TX Series CMPSU-950TX 950W ATX12V v2.3/EPS12V v2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE great deal.
COOLER MASTER HAF 932 RC-932-KKN1-GP Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case
OCZ Agility 2 OCZSSD2-2AGT50G 2.5" 50GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive Blazing fast for OS and main software.
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive For music/video/data.

Thats $965, add cpu, gpu, monitor, keyboard/mouse.

This OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD2-2VTX50G 2.5" 50GB SATA II SSD drive might be the best one to get. A new FW will turn it into a 60GB drive.
