Buffer problems in 6 but not 5?

vbimport

#1

I have been using Nero 5.5.9.9 without any problems. But I recently got a DVD burner and my version of v5 did not recognize my new burner, so I upgraded to v6. That reads my DVD burner, but I am having issues with the buffer - the usual fluctuation in the buffer level and read buffer. The burn doesn’t fail, but it takes longer than it should.

Why would I have problems with this in v6 but not v5?

BTW, I have done all of the preliminary checking of UDMA and ASPI.

#2

You could be right but you’re not comparing like with like. You haven’t used your new drive with Nero 5.5 at all, so how do you know if Nero 6 is at fault? 5.5 may have done the same if it had been able to work with your new drive. It could just be that your PC isn’t capable of handling the higher data throughput required by your new drive. Try turning off anti virus software and any other background stuff, defrag, benchmark your hard drives, etc.

@ gord
Welcome:). You will need to give us more information. Can you post a nero burn log from a successful burn with your next post? Remove your name and serial number from the top of the report.

#4

I wish I had read this before I just did a burn - don’t know when I’ll burn another DVD. Don’t know what the log file will show since there are no errors, just the buffer meter going crazy. I did notice (after using the real burning speed reg file trick) that it does it most when burning at above 8x on DVD’s and above 40x on CD’s.

#5

Okay - here is a log from my last burn. No errors, just the buffer level problem. Just did another burn at 8x instead of 16x, and it still did it, just not as much.

Here’s the problem, what other programs/processes are running on your PC, something other than Nero is reserving a vast amount of memory, since there’s only 131mb left avail, nero cant cache properly. CTRL-ALT-DEL time and find out whats the problem.

@ gord
2dividedby0 makes excellent suggestions :iagree: . You may benefit from not using your computer during burning.

You may also wish to enable DMA for this drive. It won’t help the burn speed, but if you rip with this drive, it may help.

CdRomPeripheral : AXV CD/DVD-ROM 2.2a a347scsi Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off

#8

Cheer’s please. Though you cant enable DMA for CdRomPeripheral : AXV CD/DVD-ROM 2.2a a347scsi Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off because its an alcohol virtual drive and kind of doesnt really exsist :stuck_out_tongue:
