BTC 1008IM Doesn´t burn at certified speed

Hi,
I´ve got an BTC 1008IM. It doesn´t burn all empty media at the labeled speed.
I hope you can help me, because it p**ses me off spending much money for 8x media when it does not even work.

CMC MAG E01 (DVD+) labeled Memorex 8X burn unreabily at 6X, even when i select 8X. At 4X they work fine and even my picky XBox reads ´em

LEADDATA01 (DVD-), labeled “Thats write 4X” Burn unreabily (almost nothing reads them) at 2X when 4X is selected.

CMC MAG F01 (DVD+) labeled Memorex 4X burn fine and work fine.

Hi and welcome here at CDF,

which firmware version is installed on your drive? have you updated to the latest? If not, would suggest to give it a try. It might help to get better results.

well, my sw version is the current 0159

All my 8x only burn at x4 whatever I do so I’ve just left it, I prefer to know it’s going to be successful, using Datawrite printable which is CMC MAG AE1 on DVD-

If youve got the 1008IM, then it is not possible to write 8x dvd- media faster than 4x. My problem is that it doesnt burn them at the speed written both at the burner and the media.

hasn´t got anyone further ideas?

If you spent more time reading, and less time writing, you would already have your answer. The BTC1008 is a fairly good reader, and a fairly good cd writer, and one of the poorest DVD writers on the market. Period.

Go and buy a Nec3520 at Newegg for $59.99 delivered.

Although, in its day (quite a while ago), it did win 2 or 3 tests as a dvd writer against the competition from Liteon, Sony, etc. If I recall correctly, it made points for burn quality. Media compatibility was limited, but if you found media it liked, it was (and is) fine. I do well burning Prodisc R03 +R media at 8x. Burners are so cheap these days I’d buy a new one if my 1008 really sucked; so far, no need for that.

well, i accidently stumbled over my thread on google and thought i might say i sent the writer back, and got a full refund, which was 120€ then. i bought a benq dw1620 pro, for 60 bucks, and am fairly impressed with its write quality. the btc´s media score in nero was 0 points, where the benqs is 95 on the same media. i also lost a fairly big amount of data due top that btc bit**, roughly about 50gig of “backups”, most dvds are only partially readable…well thats how the story ended.
