BTC 1008 Speed problems with nero

Hi, first posting here.

I recieved my first DVDRW yesterday, the BTC 1008IM. The problems I’m having is that Nero (6.3.1.6) only provides the options for either 2x or 1x writing. With no disc in the drive, the max still only appears as 2.4x Can someone help me with this. I have been reading all round the place about the supported media, etc, but i’m really confused why an 8x DVDRW only displays as a 2x or 2.4x in Nero. In addition I have upgraded the firmware of the drive to the latest 0258 version. Your help with this would be really appreciated. Thanks in Advance. BAY.

Are you using 4x media?

Nero will not offer a recording speed greater than the rated media speed.

#3

Yeah, the media is 4x Datawrite DVD-R. I understand that the drive won’t write DVD-R at 8x, but I can’t see a reason for it not burning at 4x as its supposed to. I’ve checked through the media section of the forum, and the same DVD-R has been shown to work perfectly fine at 4x on the 1004, but not on the 1008. I’m starting to get both a little confused and frustrated here so any other advice would be great. BAY.

What’s the MID code for this media?

#5

According to DVD Identifier, the MID code is : INFOSMART01

#6

This isn’t on the supported media list for the 1008.

What speed does DVD Identifier report it as?

#7

It reports it as a 1x , 2x , 4x , media.

I hear what you say about the supported list, but reading through the bulk of the forum this morning there have been other tests on the same media that have written at the full 4x on the 1004 drive

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=79503

So after seeing this i’m still a bit confused that when using the same burning software and DVD-R’s that my 1008 can only burn at 2x, and moreover why nero only states that my burner is capable of burning at 2.4x max.

Again, help is very appreicated by this newbie.

I thought i’d give some additional footage / info in case it can help anyone answer my query.

here’s the DVD ID info

with a DVD-R ready to burn, the following are the only speeds I can select for this 4x DVD-R media

#11

Hy,

there is already no INFOSMART01 Mid in the suppoting list for the 1004, there is an INFODISCR01.

in any case. the fw for the 1004 and the 1008 are not the same, this means, if a media is supportet by 1004 it could be that it is not supported by 1008.

the only reason that the writespeed max in nero is only 2,4 x is that this media is not 100% supported by your 1008, try an supported media and you will see that nero is showing the max speed correct.

Looking at the DVDInfoPro output, it shows that the MID code speed is 4x, which verifies that it is 4x media.

However, the Write Descriptor speeds are only 2x, 1x, which means the BTC drive will only write to that media at those speeds.

As others have mentioned, that particular MID code is probably not in the firmware, so by default for safe-writing reasons, the drive limits the available writing speeds.

Since you’re at FW0258, you’ll probably want to keep an eye out on future firmware revisions.

herbei and Vette XP,

thanks for your input. I see exactly what you mean. Let’s hope BTC include a wider array of media in forthcoming firmware releases.

Starting to understand this a bit more, so cheers all for the help!

But does anybody know how to extract the MID codes from firmware releases so the exact list of corresponding data models can be seen?? Also, is there any particular section of the forum / site where firmware requests can be passed on by people such as Marco for potential development. Surely if BTC expand their MID capabilities they will get a better reputation than what I have been reading today. I tell you for someone who is a complete newbie, and bought a good deal its a little disappointing to learn about this kind of thing after the event.
