Hi redgriffith,
they are real. :iagree:

My two cents.

I’ve found TYG02 fakes in Argentina. Labeled Mega Innovation, DVD-R, 1x-8x. They state “Made in Taiwan with Philips license”.
Media code is TYG02 but no serial number nor any legal TY code in internal ring. Just an engraved “0000” and a “323” number.

Hi Odyssey,
nikoneko’s ebay store ships all media worldwide. He does not offer any DVD+R media though.

I bought a stack of 100 advertised as Taiyo Yuden from YesBuy.net (item no. 11R-0042(100).

Described as “TY CD-R Silver/blue” the disks all have this number on the plastic next to the hole: “JM872C0275680” – with the “56” in “75690” being variable. AND this number etched in the silver next to the hub: “80 PG3041” . The packaging was completely unmarked plastic sheeting, and the stack of 100 was clearly taken from a bulk amount that was much larger.

Is this really Taiyo Yuden?

Since I’m burning archival disks that need to last, I’m concerned that I made a mistake in purchasing these.

Any assistance would be apprecated!

Is that the only number you see printed near the hub (look carefully on both sides)? If so, they are fake.

:o There’s more. Sorry.
“TH000903”

In the ‘dark’ part just along the ‘silver’ part. Former mentioned number was in the transparent part. This really hard to see, only certain angle refflecting under lamp … Still, should have found 1st time.

#758

That should be a genuine TY 16X DVD+R

Thanx, sigh… (relief)
Am putting family movies on it from as far as 1944 back.
Can you advise a thread or link where I find how best to

Hi
I want to introduce new fake taiyo Yeden DVD+R media, like millions of others. But this time a strange think is occure. Fake Taiyo Yuden disk name is already fake.

Lets begin to define problem. In my country (Turkey) to buying TYs is very very difficult. In my country noname or rebranded noname DVD medias are very common. Anyway aproximately for 4 years I used iomega DVD+R or DVD-R media. I know they are not perfect, but they have enough quality for my usage. But last time I bought two 25 packs of 16x DVD+R media because there is no 50 pack in shop.

When I was writing new media I noticed that max. writing speed is 8x. I burned before 12x and 16x without any problem. Afterthat I checked media with KProbe and DVDInfo for ensure the writing speeds. lets look the results.

But why iomega supply fake TYs ? I eventually checked old disk and I noticed there are also some physical differences on disk. Lets look results.

So that my fake TYs are already fake iomega.

I don’t think that somebody would fake the “Iomega” branded media.
The owners of Iomega brand name just probably switched the OEM manufacturer of their media from CMC/Prodisc to some Chinese manufacturer (which media are obviously cheaper).
