LOL  I know the feeling…

#643

24 (euro) cents per (printable) frisbee, it can’t be that bad!

#644

Mmmmh, that’s the price at which I can get cheap printable CMCMAG E01s with a rather low coaster rate, so I would personally have lots of second thoughts…

#645

Ok, went there, the guy was kind enough to open a cake box for me to see the underside of the discs. Fake. Oh well, it was too good to be true.

Thanks for the info, guys. :flower:

#646

So now you can sleep tonight
Zero to be added to the list of fakes, then. :stuck_out_tongue:

On the very site you link to:
Made in tailand
Taiyo Yuden media is manufactured exclusively in Japan (as yet).
Tajio Yuden
Derivative name.
Besides, the cakebox is not a TY cakebox.
FAKE.

#650

Almost certainly not real, between the packaging, the odd brand, and the ‘Tajio Yuden’ spelling. Check the inner hub for numbers stamped on it, that will confirm with certainty if it’s real or not. Real 8x TY DVD-R (TYG02) will have a code stamped on it starting with ‘GG’.

#651

Listen to the guru, he knows what he’s talking about!

#652

Actually, in these matters, our usual expert is kg_evilboy.

#653

Interesting to see that Thailand apparently has another DVD media factory making media with TY codes. The only Thai factory that I knew before, is ThaiMedia (TMI) making discs with good quality.

I have seen this cakebox form only with some SKC CD-R media from Hong Kong, so it is possible that this media actually originated from Hong Kong. Just a guess.
Can’t say more about it though, as I haven’t used this media.

I will contact Taiyo Yuden about those discs.

#654

Hey kg_evilboy

Okay So I burned a 2GB ISO image on to that “Fake” TYG02 on my LG GSA-H22N Firmware 1.01. Here’s two images from CD-DVD Speed 4.7.00.

#655

Hey hello all I bought TY’s from supermediastore theyhave to code GGOO7021 are they fake??

#656

Hi grapepul, welcome to CDFreaks!

The GG007021 code means that this is genuine Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R media (TYG02).

#657

Thanks for the greetings, strange but they won’t even show up as in my DVD drive but they work & record in my DVD recorder connected to my DVR & TV.Sounds like a bad dvd burner huh?

#658

I’m pretty sure I’ve got some Fake TY.

The guy at the Computer Fair (whom I forgot to get a receipt for) claimed they were TY and at $25 AU for a 50pack thought that wasn’t far off the price for TY so I got a pack of Verbatim and these hopeful-TY’s “Janq DVD-R 1-8x”.

They have the TY02 code but the bottom of the disc reads as “DVD-R” and “307T” which doesn’t sound like TY to me.

Blank JanQ disc:

(I have no idea what any of the graphs mean :frowning: )

I’d bought them before, but didn’t check them this thoroughly and now I can’t find most of the discs I’d burned with them previously. I have found one however.

Disc burned in August 2006:

Look fake to you?:

#659

Oh no. Hong Kong fakes again. :frowning:
The TRT doesn’t look healthy at all.

Media with TY codes under “off-the-wall brands” (as Jester put it  ) is almost always fake.

#660

I finally got my answer & I was right, DVD burner is bad :a

Brand: Tevion
Type: DVD-R 8x
Quantity: 10-pack w/ slim cases in celophane wrapper
Price: US$4.99
UPC: 041498163181
From: Aldi store on Blairs Ferry Road, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA

DVD writer: BenQ DW-1655 w/ BCDB firmware
DVD writer settings: defaults
Software: Nero 7.0.8.2

I am (or was) a novice when it came to using recordable DVDs. I didn’t even have a computer with an optical disc writer of any kind until March of last year. So I didn’t know what I was getting into when I grabbed a pack of these at the local Aldi.

Filled up the first 10-pack of discs, went back for another pack and used 4 of those. Using the Nero settings of “speed check,” “simulation,” and “verify,” set to 8x write speed, everything seemed OK. I even opened the discs up in Windows Explorer before I took them out after burning, to make sure everything was there. But when I put the discs back in the drive, it was like they wern’t even written to! Windows would show an empty drive, Nero would treat it as if it was blank, and CD-DVD Speed would only offer the tests for blank media, but it wasn’t blank. Out of that batch of 14 dics, only TWO came out readable. It’s a good thing that I hadn’t deleted any of the files from my hard drive.

After that I came here, found out all about fake Taiyo Yuden discs, and how to ID them. These are definitely fakes, since they’re missing the GG###### code on the underside and don’t have a translucent, “frosted” hub area. The packaging also doesn’t even indicate where they were made. And afterwards, when I adjusted the SolidBurn settings on my BenQ drive, they burned off with a much greater, but still not OK, success rate. It just pisses me off that Aldi would sell such inferior quality discs that would only be good for making video DVDs for stuff you don’t want to keep for long anyway. A newbie to recorable DVDs (like I was) could easily get caught by these.
