BRAND NEW DW1650 probelms

vbimport

#1

I just bought a brand new dw1650 and first dvd i tried was a coaster

i’v tried burning about 15 disc now from vertabim to sony to no name brands

out of 15 2 worked …and then i tried with the same disc again , it did not. i bought the dw1650 to replace my old gigabyte which for some reason did the same thing. so i guess it aint the recorder but something with the software.

i tried with roxio / alcohol and nero all errors
on both writers and differenent discs

here is my nero log

This is driving me insane !

I installed nero wnaspi32.dll
I undated to latest firmware
tried almost everything
even a new IDE(80) cable.
disabled AV
disabled Virtual Drives
no luck.

As i said 2 different writers , 15 different discs - 2 sucessfull writes.

Anyone any idea’s ???
I would rilly apreciate it !

On this drive there could be several factors… One of which is if you have SolidBurn enabled it will greatly help reduce coasters with MOST media. Also make sure DMA is enabled (you can check either in the BIOS or Device Manager, follow the link in my signature for a how-to, this burner runs in UDMA mode 2). Make sure that your jumper settings and master/slave connections match up. If you have it in cable select then change to where the Benq is the Master on the secondary IDE channel.

#3

I do have solid burn on and still costers.

Also make sure DMA is enabled (you can check either in the BIOS or Device Manager, follow the link in my signature for a how-to, this burner runs in UDMA mode 2).

both IDE channels are UDMA 5

Make sure that your jumper settings and master/slave connections match up. If you have it in cable select then change to where the Benq is the Master on the secondary IDE channel.

The benq is on ide2 and maters jumpered with no other drivices on that IDE channel.

#4

i reckon its a dud. Try it on someone elses computer to confirm and send that biach back for a replacement.

You are using an 80 pin IDE cable right>?

#5

I think you’re referring to 80 conductors cable…

i bought the dw1650 to replace my old gigabyte which for some reason did the same thing
I’d suspect a PSU (power supply) quality issue. Did you have hard disc failures during the last two years? How old is this PC? Would you check the characteristics of your PSU?

The IDE cable is indeed another possibility. Try another cable (a 80 conductors one).

#6

I’v tried the burner in my friends Pc and it works.

Iv’e tried 2 different ird cables.

this pc is a year old .
amd 3200 athlonXP
1 gb ram

no hdd failures
but i do get write delay errors on some drives just say that in the eventlog

Is there anyway i can monitor iff something is wronge with the PSU ?
it like 3 weeks old 500W , i canted it after adding more drives.

#7

You have answered your own question it is very likely that the PSU is of poor quality or faulty.
Take some load off of it and try a burn.
Speed fan monitors PSU voltages amongst other things and is free. Have it running whilst you do a burn and watch the 5 volt line in particular.
Noise or ripple is the most likely cause.

#8

i’v just installed speedfan burning a dvd as we speak …
the Vcore +3.3v and +5v is pin straight the only one that moves a bit is the -12v

and damn !!! 82% and it fails .

Some users have reported similar issues, what is your motherboard chipset? Could be a chipset/chipset driver issue, or PSU or even RAM quality issue, I’d run a memtest just in case, in order to eliminate the poor RAM quality possibility.

#10

Try uninstalling Roxio software and Nero Burn. Then use the Nero Clean tool and then reinstall Nero Burn. I’m thinking you may have a software conflict. If that still does not solve your problem and the drive works on another pc then you may want to roll back windows xp before you installed the 1650 drive. Lastly you could reinstall windows xp but use that as the last resort. Just my 2 cents!
