Blank Dvd-r's are showing up with 0 freespace and 0 available space

#1

I swear I’ve burned my avi files as data to dvd-r’s before and for some reason it says that the disks have no space whatsoever now.
Maybe I’m just going mad and imagined I have…
I think my burner is a LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1673S
::shrugs::
That’s why I’m posting in the newb forum.
Anywho, I’m using Nero.
That’s all I can think of right now, but if you need more info to help me just let me know.
Thanks.

#2

It should work in Nero. Windows is supposed to show the “0 bytes” thing.

What kind of errors do you get in Nero?

#3

“power calibration error”

“Burn process failed at 16x (22,160 KB/s)”

Then it asks if I want to print or save the error report.

I’ve saved the log, but it’s rather long

#4

If you can, post the whole log. Be sure to insert it in CODE tags.

[CODE*]yourtexthere[/CODE*], when you remove the *, will look like

yourtexthere

.

#5

Yeah post a log…maybe bad media, try slower burn speed 6x or 8x…

dunno why, but that power calibration error thing grabs me the most, from what I gathered from the log everything was going okay til that occurred? I dunno ::shrugs::

#8

I would try:

Uninstalling the nVidia IDE Drivers in Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs (there should be an entry for the nVidia drivers. You only need to uninstall the IDE ones). They’ve been known to cause problems, so I’d use Windows’ own IDE drivers.

Also, make sure you have the latest firmware for your LiteOn. The Sony discs are usually very good.

#9

Do you have any other CD/DVD related applications installed, such as CloneCD, Daemon Tools, etc? I see a virtual drive that typically comes from a program like those.

#10

daemon

#11

You should also enable DMA, and try different media,as your drive is having issues with s0ny media…
Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)

#12

I’m sorry, DMA?

#13

Nero can misreport DMA 'cos of the nVidia drivers. Which is why I suggested removing them

#14

I, in addition to what Arachne said, suggest an uninstall of Daemon Tools and try again.

#15
I, in addition to what Arachne said, suggest an uninstall of Daemon Tools and try again.
I’d agree, for troubleshooting purposes :iagree:

#16

I removed the IDE nvidia drivers and uninstalled daemon but am not clear on what DMA is, another Nvidia driver? I didn’t see it…

#17
…but am not clear on what DMA is, another Nvidia driver? I didn’t see it…
Don’t worry about it just yet. I suggest you try another burn now, if you haven’t already, and report back. If required, we’ll fill you in on DMA later.

#18

I read your DMA tutorial but found nothing on DMA when I tried it on my compy.

#19

no go on the burn
