Blank Cd's are recognised and the Blank DvD's are not

any suggestions guys,

I’ve recently been having trouble with my dvd writer not recognising blank dvd’s or cd’s benq dw1650. eventually after trying loads of different types i gave up and bought a new dvd writer Sony DVD ±R 18X AW-G170A. After installing software for dvd writer i tried some discs.
The Blank Cd’s are recognised and the Blank DvD’s are not.
As the dvd writer is brand new it is not that.
The Ide Cable is New With the Same spec as the previous cable 300v awc 105 oC FT1 so i’m NOT SURE.
Jumper set to Master.
Bios recognising the dvd writer.
New install of windows with services pack 2.
This is the 3rd dvd writer in 12 months and they have all had the same fault. which is the dvd writer side failing and i dont even burn that much.
I’m dredding it could be the motherboard hope not.
Any help or suggestions guys please.
As i’ve completely run out of idea’s

Below Is my pc info if it helps.

It surely is your other hardware, not 1 of the drives that is at fault.

Thanks for replying chef what would you suggest

It could be an “running mad” PSU.

What happens when you start up Nero, open an template like ISO/UDF and then insert a blank DVD and click on Disc info?
Does the drive access the media and does Nero give you some info?

If you are able to burn some DVDs, then please do that and later post the logfile form Nero here (remove serial numbers).

There are a number of reasons why you may be having trouble.

When you place a disc in the drive there is no point looking at it with explorer as it cannot read what is not there!
You could have problems with compatibility with the burners firmware and DVD, i.e. is there a burning strategy for the the make of and dye used in the manufacture of the disc in the firmware. Older burners have had trouble with the latest discs until the firmware is upgraded. What disc’s are you using?

when i insert a blank cd and right click properties it shows as pink and displays the amount available to burn onto.
when i insert a blank dvd and right click properties it shows as blue an displays 0 bytes

The Dvd writer is 24 hrs old from shop
all settings and jumpers are correct
It came supplied with Nero 7 essentials
when i open smartstart an go to favourites
make your own dvd is not available.
nero info tool works fine it recognises the blank dvd and displays speeds available and write feature is supported dvd-r
test drive works fine
dvd-r discs are compatible with dvd writer
just burned a audio cd fine at 48x 7200 kb/s in 4 mins

just cannot figure out why the dvd side will not work ??

This is just normal because its a windows feature.

Use Nero, start it, select your burner as target drive, SELECT DVD, open up a template or make a new compilation, then try to burn that to DVD.
