I am about to buy a DVD Writer on Monday (Plextor 708A or NEC2500A). As far as I have undertood, if you choose to burn +R, in order to ensure compatibility with older desktop DVD Players, you should change the booktype to DVD-Rom. I have a few questions regarding this issue :
1) Changing the booktype only makes sense in DVD+R with DVD video on them, right (like a DVD movie backup) ? There's no use in changing the booktype to data DVD+R, is that correct ?
2) Is it recommended to ALWAYS change the booktype to DVD-ROM in case you burn a DVD+R video disk ? Do you have anything to lose (i.e. drawbacks) if you always do so ? What do you guys prefer to do when burning DVD Video discs ? (bitsetting or not ? or perhaps burn only -R media for DVD Video ?)
3) Does the Plextor 708A support bitsetting (via firmware e.t.c.) ?
4) Does the NEC3500A support bitsetting (via firmware e.t.c.) ?
Thanks in advance for any help.
