Bitsetting question on DVR-108

I don’t understand something about the bitsetting on DVR-108
Here :
we can read :

  1. The x08 sets +R DL media on DVD-ROM booktype anyways!

PIODATA sell pioneer 108 drives with their own slightly modified firmware. This firmware sets the bitsetting for any DVD+R media to DVD-ROM, and it can be used on any pioneer 108 drive (not the retail XL models though).

So, the both firmware set the booktype on DVD-ROM, what is the advantage of the PIODATA firmware ?

The standard Pioneer firmware only bitsets Dual Layer +R media; the Piodata firmware bitsets ALL +R media, including DVD+RW (just need to format the disc first).

thank you !
