Better drive! Frank opinion please!

Hi everyone! Off lately I have been going through plenty of reviews comparing 16x writers needlessly to say most of the writers are compared. At least 8 of them out of 10 vote for NEC 3500A as the best writer. But my question is in almost all the reviews they encountered read errors(not many though) using NEC but the PIONEER had better writing but of course it does not support bit setting. So would you guys agree (for a minute please forget that we all have NEC writers) that in the order of quality PIONEER would rate much better than NEC when it comes to the question of the quality of writing. The NEC is definitely cheaper though and IMHO looks a lot more ugly (the OEM drive) than the PIONEER. So what exactly makes the NEC the better drive as I personally prefer quality over speed? Please advice. Thanks
