Best Way to copy Dual Layer

vbimport

#1

I haven’t asked this question in awhile and was wondering if people’s opinions have changed. What is the best way to get 1:1 backups of your movies using dual layer?

My Method:

AnyDVD - running to remove copyrights

IMGBurn - in read mode

IMGBurn - in write mode using mds file.

#2

This is the only way, I mean using ImgBurn.
New version is easier, because you do not have to worry about different modes, just click first page, File, Folder to DVD.

If you looking for free version with Anydvd that is a good option to go with. But you answer will vary alot on here from different users. As in do you want paid version or free version and different mix of software working together. I use AnyDVD, CloneCD, CloneDVD, CloneDVDMobile, Dvdfab plat…so in this way I get the most options I can…

#4

You could also add, RipIt4Me or DvdFab HD Decrypter, (in fact any DvdFab product), to rip to your hard drive, then ImgBurn in ISO Write, (choosing the MDS file), or Build Mode.

What do you mean with the new version?

If you are using imgburn and have it set to check for updates, you would have been notified. Otherwise …

This way is as good as any. :iagree:

Sorry, don’t use my computer and burner EVERYDAY, didn’t see the new version.

I agree also. :iagree:

This combination will cope with anything, it only uses two programs (both of which are very highly respected) and it also involves the fewest number of steps.

Good choice by the OP.

Any software combination can copy for what you are asking. The question is rather you want to retain the original layer break or not? If yes then CloneCD or Imgburn is your only 2 options to copy and burn. I personally like to own and have anydvd as I don’t want to do multiple steps.

#11

Another quick question which I don’t fully understand.

How come when you rip a movie with DVDFab or AnyDVD to the harddrive it removes the layerbreak? Then if you use ImgBurn in build mode, you often can’t set the same layer break.

Also when ripping it sometimes makes the total MB size of the folder smaller than the original (sometimes when removing certain copyrights).

However, if one uses AnyDVD on the fly and then ImgBurn to read it should make an exact copy bit by bit. My question is how can this be so, if the copyrights are removed?

It isn’t excatly 1:1 copy but close to it only if you use DL media not SL media which removes the layer break if its a DVD9 to DVD5 conversion. That last question should be directed toward the software programmer assuming they will tell you their programming which they probably won’t. Anydvd doesn’t remove the layer break only CloneDVD will do that…

#13

I would have to think, that if in DvdFab, you go to Common Settings / Dvd / Protection & uncheck the box that says, Remove Layer Break, that DvdFab wouldn’t remove it, just like you have the same option in Dvd Shrink. Somebody please correct me if I am wrong. I am talking about DL not SL.

#14

Hello after reading this thread I thought I’d try IMGburn.

However I keep getting this error.

My burns also fail at 50% using clone DVD and power2go.

Any idea why?

#15

Assuming you are using dual layer DVD, did you set a layer brake before burning?

#16

No  I don’t what that is. Can you tell me how to do that please?
I did use DL media. MIS verbs.

clone mode will preserve layer break despite having the remove layer break box checked or not. :iagree:

some movies have alot of junk to delete, you can check this in dvdfab info or anydvd status

My burns also fail at 50% using clone DVD and power2go.

it would be nice to see a full ImgBurn log, seems your drive is not the newest model and your firmware is not the latest release

Just before a burning window you are showing come the window which ask to set a layer brake. There are different colour stars on left side (colour explanation is on bottom part), choose the best one.
You will not have too many choices since your file is almost to the limit of DVD9.
Going beck to your screen it looks like brake was set at 1,952,432, but the error came right after that at 1,952,880. It is quite possible that the brake was not correct or there is a damaged second layer on that part of DVD.
There is also posibility that the drive does not burn propely to second layer.

I don’t have the log anymore. But I updated the firmware. I’m currently using
"LD7170 1.O4 (Liggy & Dee NEC AD-7170A firmware)"

Again with this firmware same problem.
