I'm looking for some suggestions on a project I've been thinking of putting together.
I'd like to essentially have a rig that will allow me to use multiple DVD-R drives to rip and burn.
In other words I would have perhaps up to 6 dvd r drives to do various combinations of ripping and burning.
example: pop in 3 source dvds, 3 dvd-rs and let it fly
example: pop in 6 dvds and rip them all to iso
example: pop in 6 dvd-r and have imgburn burn various iso files to those drives.
Stable burn - no coasters (I use only genuine tayo yuden)
Good quality rip/burn
Meet some heavy usage.
The not so important is speed, I would tone down speed to get a better burn. The idea is to setup the rig, let it fly, and go to work.
I'd like to invest in 6 really good drives but price does matter:
For the rig - suggestions on hard drive? fast rpm sata drive or SSD? model suggestions?
What are the thoughts behind SATA vs IDE in this situation? I was thinking of even getting a high speed SATA controller to do the trick that has enough channels. Bad idea?
I was thinking of perhaps doing all this through usb2 for mobility and flexiability in use otherwise I'm going to have to find a huge ATX case with a huge PSU! Is this a bad idea? I would use an external enclosure - what would be the best ones? Will externals be prone to coaster making?
Any comments-suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
