Since most new BD movies are going to be above 25 GB, I think we need a thread for members who have found BD-R 50 GB prices that are the best for these discs. I already have a couple of BD-RE 50 GB, which I use to make sure my source records properly on my LG 20L. I haven’t purchased any BD-R 50 GB yet, due to the prices. The best price I saw was around $35 for a BD-R 50 GB. In a lot of instances, you can purchase the movie for $20-25, so the blank media is not really competitive now. Please post source and price. Thanks.

$31.92 plus $6.99 shipping- Amazon 50 GB Sony 2x

At Fry’s Electronics stores, there’s BD-R 50GB discs for either 21.99 or 24.99 (can’t recall which one it is). These are Panasonic ones.

Hmmm. I bought a Sony BD-RE 25GB disc for ~$21 with tax. Not much of a bargain, right? That was the last disc over there. I didn’t open it yet though. I’ll see if I can find the 50GB RE variety at Best Buy. So $40 is about the average price for that?

BTW, I just got my LG-GGW-H20L drive about two weeks ago and watching an actual blu-ray movie with a video card and monitor that has both HDMI connectors. Is freakin’ awesome.

If you eBay you can find 50GB Dual Layer Re-writables for <$45 shipped.
I don’t know if you will find RE’s in stores for that price though.

How much would these discs go for (someday)? Dual layer technology can be problematic. Sixteen, while amazing, will take some incredible optical precision.
