Best NON Lite-On CD Writer?

I bought a Lite-On 40125S as the recommended writer based on queries from this board. Unfortunately, I think I got one from the bad “batch” as detailed in several posts in the Lite-On forum. I have some good and some bad discs with unrecoverable errors. All this is on good quality Mitsui or T.Y. media at only 8x or 12x burning speed!

I’m not willing to try another Lite-On, but want another good 2-sheep burner. I’ll use it for anything and everything from music to copying protected games. If I have to weigh the options, copying protected data is more important than protected audio, but burning good music CD’s is important.

Any other recommendations? Considering my issues with Lite-On, having good error correction is apparently a must.

Thanks,
Robert

If you don’t want to give LiteOn a 2nd try, then Asus might be an option. At least they have 2 sheep

I’d select PX-4012TA if you don’t mind the price. It can do CDS 100, CDS 200, Key 2 Audio. With AWS it can do safedisk. It’s
also the King of quality writting.

Actually, at least here, Plextor 48x isn’t much more expensive than 40x. So IF you decide for Plextor, get 48x. Especially CD-RW is faster

I have a Plextor 8/4/32A in another PC, and its very good, but it doesn’t do copy protections well. I think the ASUS will be my choice for the moment.

Asus is my first choise, Lite-On second
The Asus 52 speed is absolutely perfect. it has the most of the Asus 48 speed bugs fixed.

Maelstrom,
Since you have the ASUS, can you check this other thread I started and let me know your findings on the ASUS at 8-12x burning and 2x (which I use for audio)??

Also, I read the review of the 52X and it doesn’t appear to be any better at bad media or error correction than the 48X.

Is your experience different?

Thanks,
Robert

Plextor 48x.

1st choice: Yamaha CRW-F1
2nd choice: LiteOn LTR-48246S (no need for a faster burrner)

Yamaha recorders are much better than Plextor.

If you wanto to buy a Plextor, please be my guest. Throw your money into the streets

i’ll check your link later, busy right now :frowning:

in my opinion (and many others) the 52 speed performs better than the 48 speed and is less media picky.
if you compare the 48 speed review and the 52 speed review you’ll notice some difference.
my cheap ass cd’s didn’t worked in the 48 speed drive but worked perfectly in the 52 speed drive. i think overall the 52 speed is the better drive and many people who own an Asus agree with me.
