I have to agree with dallshead... there are a lot of fine movies, but only "The Shawshank Redemption" really stands out. It's funny, it's smart, it's exciting/well-paced, and most of all, it's very heart-warming. Very good acting, too. The big problem with LOTR and Matrix, in my personal opinion, is that they're just special effects. Lots of eye-candy, but no true acting, so neither movie made it into my list.
