I don’t think there is much difference between the various Liteon
models. A1P vs A1H, IDE vs SATA, they all seem to give similar
results. Some Liteon LH-18 and LH-20 drives suffer from loud
mechanical resonances. My LH-20A1P is very quiet. My LH-18A1P
is quite noisy.
Taiyo Yuden CD-R work really well with Liteon drives. I get very
good results with Verbatim branded TY CD-R (Made in Japan).
These drives have good support for most types of good quality DVD
media. As others have said, Verbatim and TY are usually a safe
choice. Verbatim are generally easy to find and quite reliable.
IMHO, the best TY DVDs are 8x +R (YUDEN000 T02).
My choice for the absolute best DVD media for the Liteon LH-20
in order of preference:
1 Ridisc Xtreme 16x +R (RITEKP16) (Europe)
2 TDK 8x +R (YUDEN000 T02)
3 Verbatim 16x +R (MCC004)
4 Verbatim 16x -R (MCC 03RG20)
5 TDK +R 8x (CMC MAG E01)
