Best DVD-R Media for NEC 2500A

Hey everyone,

I’ll keep this short. I’ve been reading through the media section of this forum as well as the NEC section. It seems like there is a lot of different responses from everyone. Here is my analysis, can someone please check me on this?

I live in the US.

Ritek Ridata G04’s are very good and not that many coasters.
Ritek Datasafe G04’s are also very good, right up there with the Ridata.
Ritek Arita’s are very bad in quality and produce a lot of coasters.

Prodisc S03. On a website I read that they are Pioneer certified. Apparently from the forums, a lot of people say that prodisc’s from the US are good.

Verbatim DataLifePlus. I see these discs a lot, but I’m not sure if they’re good quality?

So now here’s my question, which DVD-R disc is the best out of those? And which DVD-R disc is the best overall.

Now, my purpose is to backup all the Playstation 2 games that I own. I will be burning at either 2x or 4x. So anyone can give me a suggestion to which disc is the best?

Thanks in advance =)

oopsss sorry

I’ve had no problems playing Xbox games burned on to Prodisc S03 media.

The ProdiscS03 media that I got (under the Fuji brand name) has been very reliable for me.

I’ve only tried DataLifePlus DVD+R media, so I can’t really comment on that.

Taiyo Yuden media is also great. Here is one source for it:
http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=R&Product_Code=1674-50

Most Taiyo Yuden media burns at 8x too.

Ehhh, you were just being helpful. It’s the thought that counts right?
Plus no harm done. :stuck_out_tongue:

Accaproducts.com and supermediastore.com have super hot prices on Prodisc -R and +R.
I would try those before I get the G04. And I would only get Ridata branded G04 to avoid all the hassle.

You can get a 50 pack of, made in Japan, Maxell Mxl rg02 DVD-R discs from Buy.com for ~$63.00. These are some of the very best discs out there!

Since you are not mentioning cost, then you can’t beat Taiyo Yuden media…

Accaproducts.com is the same company as RIMA.com. From what I’ve heard, Rima is the personal customer store, and Accaproducts is the business customer store. They have great customer service and are highly recommended. I would check Rima first, as when prices get lowered, it sometimes happens there before Accproducts. Either way, same company.

Media List for 8x DVD Writer

#13

i just ordered a 50pk of Prodisc’s from supermediastore. I’ll let you know how it goes. Ppl say they’re the next best thing to Ritek’s, but cheaper price

#14

The Prodisc media in the US is probably better than Ritek media right now.

#15

They are not the same company, I used to work for one of them.

you can tell by looking at their contact addresses.

They are each others competitors, Meritline has been getting really bad reviews of people saying “stay away” because of their business ethics, using grade B’s as grade A’s and using fake Riteks, etc, etc.

Supermediastore has a better review, not many complaints, but I would not mix the two up as one company. Thats just wrong.

#16

Ya, so I ordered 50 Prodisc cause that seems to be pretty popular. I’m probably going to be using those discs to backup stuff from my computer. Now for backing up my PS2 games… should I use Verbatims? Or should I just stick with prodisc?

#17

I’m having some troubles burning prodisc s03 at 8speed. I use 1.07v2b5. They all seem to be unreadable after burning. Verbatim dvd-r are either taiyo yuden or mitsubishi dvd-r’s and burn all at 8speed even with original firmware ans very low error rates. But those verbatims are more expensive, here in Belgium about 1 euro a piece. I just buy mostly PRINCO, costs me 60cent and burn at 8speed wit 1.07v2b5 and perfectly readable.

FUJIFILM03 8x Datawrite Grey top DVD-R from SVP are very nice and VERY CHEAP!

They give OK burns at 8x depnding on firmware (I seem to do better with stock for some reason). They burn really good at 4x. Nice smooth curve in CD Speed. Ordered 100 of the suckers as SVP are doing a 99p ‘buyers club’ delivery option until England score a goal in the footy.

It has been said many times here that the Prodisc sold in the US has great quality in general compared to the ones sold in Europe.
You might want to try ordering some across the ocean and see if it works for you. The price right now is just awesome(~$40USD/100).

I think you’re probably fine to stick with the Prodisc.
