Good advice if oorah lives in the US but we don't know where s/he lives.
In many countries it's very difficult to buy Japanese made media.
Downunder, it's not possible to buy-
- Any Japanese made +R media.
- Japanese made TDK -R (TY)
- Japanese made Fuji -R (TY)
- Japanese made Verbatim -R (TY)
- Japanese made Mitsubishi -R (MCC)
In addition, there are really only 3 outlets that regularly sell either That's label or OEM TY -R and their stocks tend to be very limited. There is an on-line store based in Sydney that sells 4x -R OEM-TY, a store in Melbourne that sells both over the counter and on-line which sells both 4x and 8x That's label -R (but which is out of stock of the 4x) and a chain based in Brisbane and regional centres of Queensland that has limited stocks of That's label 8x -R and which doesn't really have an on-line business.
In short, the only Japanese manufactured dvd media that is generally available are Japanese made Maxell 8x -R that are comparatively very expensive and which are sold only as full-case singles or in boxes of 5 or 10 at a chain store that operates nationwide (JB HiFi). Further, whether JB will continue to stock Japanese made Maxell after existing stocks are sold is doubtful. [JB has for the past couple of years sold Singapore made Verbatim Data Life Plus as full case singles or in boxes of 10. However, recently their stocks have been replaced with Verbatim media made in Taiwan (and without any reduction in price either )].
