Best Current BD Ripper?

Guys

I couldn’t find a reader roundup, only burners.

All I want to do is back up my BD collection to play on a media server:

Do any have riplock removed without FW hacks, etc.

thx

bob

Some drives listed here:

If you use AnyDVD HD, then this drive will rip fast:

  • Pioneer BDR-203BK
  • Panasonic SW-5584, clones: Sony BWU-300S, I-O Data BRD-SP8B, Buffalo BR-816FBS

LG BH08LS20 has BD riplock at 4.8x but easily removed by ala42 MCSE making it rip at full 8x.

But if you use other than AnyDVD HD (maybe DVDFab?), the Panasonic SW-5594/Sony BWU-300S has BD riplock at 2x, according to this review.

I would choose either Pioneer BDR-203BK or LG BH08.

Thanks, Zaina

What is ala42MCSE?

Zaina

I really only need a reader, not a burner.

thx

If you want only a reader, your choice is limited. Maybe a Lite-On iHES208 for $120 at newegg. The drive is riplocked and you will need ala42 MCSE patches to rip at full speed.

Otherwise, with a bit more $$ you can get 8x BD burners such as Pioneer BDR-203BK $180 at newegg or LG BH08LS20 $220 at Bestbuy.
