"Best" BIOS settings for DVD-ROM / DVD-RW?

 I have a two year computer, built myself, with an Intel MotherBoard w/P4 2.5Ghz, 2GB RAM, 3Ware RAID controller w/2 WD3200SB’s, etc.

I just installed a NEW Sony DRU-810A (REBADGED BenQ DW1640) and wanted to get advice on the “BESTBIOS settings. Please note I also have a BenQ 16X DVD-ROM (DVP1650). Unlike the HD’s, I am only using a 40 Conductor Cable for these devices. Would an 80 Conductor help with these ??

BIOS set to “AUTO” instead of “CD-ROM”:
LBA MODE CONTROL: ENABLED
MULTI-SECTOR TRANSFERS: DISABLED
PIO MODE: MODE 4
ULTRA DMA: MODE 2
CABLE DETECTED: 40 CONDUCTOR

I am using ROXIO EASY MEDIA CREATOR 7 BASIC DVD and haven’t made any “coasters” yet (DVD or CD) but was seriously thinking of upgrading to the version that allows me to burn my TIVO files onto DVD !!

I would just set to Auto in the Bios. Just check in Device Manager that DMA is enabled & that the current setting is Ultra DMA mode 2.

Also it’s often reckoned better to use 80 wire cables, all mine are.

There is no reason to use 40 wire anymore. 80 wire never is a problem whereas 40 wire can cause all kinds of difficulty.
