Check this out. Looks like a way to get a DW1640 in the U.S.

http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fhomepage2.nifty.com%2Fyss%2Fpx740a%2Fpx740a.htm&langpair=ja|en&hl=en&safe=off&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools

It’s tranlated from Japanese using Google Language Tools.

Basically says the the PX-740A CAN be converted to the DW1640 and is 100% functional as a BenQ DW1640!

Even shows what steps are needed to do the conversion. What ya guys think of this? Good/Bad?

thanks

Its the same tools that everone uses to crossflash their current drives WinDWFlash and a corresponding .cvt so its nothing new per say just a confirmation that the cross flash does work.

I sent BenQ an E-Mail this morning asking if there was a way to buy a “real” DW1640 in the U.S. I am hoping I get a reply soon.

Any news on this yet? I’d really like to get a BenQ DW1640. When will they be available in the US? Any reason not to get the Plextor version?

They told me June or July. D’Oh. Why wait? They should release it NOW.

The Plextor version costs more.
